love that doesn't belong to anyone

I've been wanting to watch a movie for a long time. It is more abstract than Truffaut 400, but it is also more worthy of contemplation and scrutiny. julie et Jim, the actual central character is Catherine. Rather than saying that Catherine is a character, it's better to say that she is what the director portrayed after he visualized love—passionate, fickle, and beautiful, which only exists for a while and is not owned by anyone.

Some shots are worth scrutinizing.

1. The scene where Chatherine smokes at the beginning of the film is a zoom in plus a tracking shot. This establishes the character of Catherine throughout the film and separates her from the entire shot.

2. When Catherine sings, the camera gives her a close-up. The content of the lyrics alludes to the relationship between Catherine and Jim, but none of the shots show Jim. The implication here is that only love itself, with Catherine as an abstract indication, is the only choice for whoever falls in love.

3. When theares (forgot how to spell it) and jim reunited, she was gushing about what she had been through lately, and many people stopped to say hello to Jim.

4. The use of music in the film is very representative of the new wave, and the same melody is used repeatedly to strengthen the emotions that the film wants to express. At the end, the music is gradually enriched, and there is no grief for the deceased - to express that love only exists for a while and cannot be owned.

Truffau took photos of happiness so happy, sorrow so sad, despair so desperate. Love that everyone can't let go is doomed to disaster. The music is good.

I'm not going to say something like "give a star for Jeanne Morro", after all, this movie has two hours of stupid talk.

Jules and Jim quotes

  • Jim: What is it?
