"The Secret of the Book of Kells" and the later "Song of the Sea" have the same director, the same style, and both look good. But the former is far superior to the latter in terms of richness of content, picture quality and music creation. But didn't get an award. The reason is probably because its content involves sensitive content such as history, religion, national war and so on.
The Book of Kells is my favorite color cartoon, bar none.
The Book of Kells tells the story of Brandon, an orphan who was adopted by his uncle Carla, a monastic monk. The brush records the history of their own nation-Ireland, and shows the scholars who comfort their own people.
The main line of the story in the film is the invasion of aliens. Under this main line, the famous person who fled from the occupied area ~ Itami, the painter of the scriptures, pursued the continuation of the life of the race through culture ~ the Book of Kell; and accepted his old friend Kara, looked down on Itami's approach, but only Excessive attempt to use passive resistance ~ that is to strengthen and increase the castle to try to defend against foreign aggression.
Brandon fell in love with the beautiful and beautiful pictures in the Book of Kells and became Edan's assistant and student. During his journey to the wild to find paint for painting and Tianyan (crystal magnifying glass), he became friends with the elf Ashley, who gave his life for him to get the Tianyan from the guardian of the snake demon.
The various episodes in this story are highly symbolic.
First, it states that culture, not technology, characterizes human civilization. Vikings with developed military technology, who use technology to burn, kill and plunder, are nothing but armed devils and beasts. And Edan, the Book of Kells in Brandon's hands is truly the hope of mankind's past, present and future, and it is the proof that mankind is close to the gods.
Secondly, in Brandon, he went to the wild to find materials for painting, and his interaction with the elf Ashley reflected the relationship between man and nature. As a representative of nature, Ashley reflects nature's selfless gift to human beings. She helped mankind obtain all the materials leading to the gods and gave her life. Ashley's image is magical, beautiful, noble and mysterious with the mysterious white fox.
The last obvious symbol came during Brandon's acquisition of the Sky's Eye. When Ashley opened the channel to the heavenly eye with her life, the psychedelic world that Brandon fell into was the human mind. Only by defeating the snake representing selfish desires in their own minds can human beings take out the heavenly eye from the snake. Thus get the opportunity to lead to the world of gods.
This film, the picture is the most beautiful picture I have ever seen, especially the nature of Ashley, especially the pictures in the Book of Kells, the colors are dazzling and transparent. Ah, the layman of my pictures, those pictures are far beyond my language. The music is also so lively. Watching this film and listening to the music in it, I can't help but ask the producers, have you ever been to heaven?
This film did not win the grand prize, which I analyze and believe is the reason for the analysis at the beginning of this article.
It seems that the reason for not awarding this film is not to hurt the feelings of most British people, but the ancestors of the British have brought so many disasters to the ancestors of the Irish, so I am sorry for the Irish, it seems that the British themselves should also take the initiative to say I'm sorry.

Best animated feature film to date. I love Ireland. | 2013.03.16 Screening on the eve of St Patrick's Day, the IFI hall was full, and the programmers watched the entire film on the shoulders of the pillow. After the show, I went to O'Neills to share an Irish Lamb Stew, and then passed the Grafton full of green hats to ride the Ferris wheel. . It's a life I never imagined before coming to Ireland.

    Brendan: I do. Smaller ones.

    Aisling: [laughs] Yeah. Like bushes.

    [Brendan glares at her]
