Watched it in the UK, and it premiered in the UK today, but there was only a single-digit audience...? Maybe because of the weekday afternoon.
Since I am doing research on presenting national culture from a contemporary perspective, I went to "presenting Chinese culture from a contemporary perspective". The setting of non-"traditional Chinese culture" is very good (really, don't hesitate to use kung fu, martial arts, ancient buildings), streets, billboards, residential buildings, grandma's slippers... The picture has nothing to say, but look at it Immediately, I felt that the plot was not enough to make up the picture (more on this later).
Let's talk character design first. The female protagonist is a non-traditional Chinese girl who pursues herself. It is not wrong to say Americanization, but it can also be interpreted as a radical woman under the influence of globalization...? In short, I would like to give a thumbs up to the independent female protagonist, but if you want to let foreigners know more about contemporary young women in China, you may still need some more typical (but not stereotyped) Chinese female characteristics (hairstyle, dressing, manners ) Etc. As a study dog, I said that after staying abroad for a long time, you can really see at a glance who is Chinese, who is Japanese, who is Korean and who is Southeast Asian... Really, there are differences. ), the heroine belongs to a relatively unique group, and the first impression I feel is that of Chinese-Americans - not in character (there are too many independent women in China), but in dress and behavior . Taking a selfie every five minutes without taking a second-hand phone away from a male’s phone can be regarded as a reflection of the social characteristics of the Chinese people, but in fact, there should be a larger proportion of girls who like to do it like this, right? Not sure why the director chose a male character XD. The second man's plaid shirt can be said to be very Chinese, but the hairstyle does not feel typical? Isn't it all short hair in China? 233333, but the character of the male protagonist also determines that he will never have such an ordinary hairstyle. The third male is stupid and cute, maybe a junior high school student? In the movie, it is a funny role, and sometimes it feels like adding confusion to the protagonist, but there must be such a role. The appearance design feels weird. I have never seen a Chinese teenager dressed up like him. Like the heroine, at first glance, he looks like a Chinese American. It's because I'm too old and there's a generation gap hahh. To sum up, the design of the three main characters can be seen that the designers try to get closer to the image of Chinese teenagers and girls, but they are not typical images. This has advantages and disadvantages: the advantage is to make the protagonist stand out in the crowd, and the disadvantage is that One of the goals of the film was not achieved: to show foreigners the image of contemporary Chinese young people. After all, it is not enough to rely on a selfie man . I think the achievement of this goal still requires some more typical designs - to allow foreigners to see the difference in dress and behavior between local Chinese and Japanese/Korean/overseas Chinese, the goal has been achieved.
Now let's talk about the plot is not enough pictures to make up. Not only that, but there is not enough magic to make it together . Regarding the former: The plot is really old-fashioned, and I don’t feel that there is much ups and downs (there is a “turn” in the climax, but it feels far-fetched). Half of the story is predicted. I still want to like the picture. It is a popular science for foreigners about China's natural scenery and tourism... There is also the Leshan Giant Buddha. In the film, it only says that this classic is the most wanted attraction of the protagonist, but does not explain the reason? I always feel that it is a gap, and obsessive-compulsive disorder means that it is very uncomfortable...
As for the latter: the snowman's magic solves all difficulties, and it always feels... unimpressive. Isn't it supposed to rely on wisdom and courage to move people more... So, the setting of "snowman magic solves everything" has already pushed the movie to a younger age. It doesn't mean that magic is low. For example, Toy Story (sorry I'm a die-hard fan of the toy series) is magic if the toys have life? But if they want to escape from A Xue's house, they still have to rely on communication, wisdom and cooperation! I dare say that Toy Story is by no means an underage movie. In this film, the snowman hums a song and all the problems are solved, but it always feels unrealistic; and randomly gigantic plants, creating rapeseed waves, etc., always feels too much... If it was originally a Harry Potter-like The magic world is understandable, but it is set in the ordinary world, so excessive magic feels a bit unbalanced between the pros and cons . Maybe the plot would be more attractive if we could add a problem that the snowman humming doesn't work or doesn't solve.
Summarize:
One star for the picture, one star for contemporary Chinese culture, and one star for the female protagonist with a distinctive personality, totaling three stars.
