No Rules, No Fears The Jane Austen Book Club

The subtitle at the beginning of the film is a sentence from Jane Austen: Isn't it the essence of love to offend everyone for one person? The film has a good definition. What the director wants to say is not Jane Austen's novels, or Jane Austen himself, but the emotional stories of six ordinary people who read Jane Austen's books.
Six ordinary people, with their own emotional experiences, get together to talk about Jane Austen's novels, but also about their own lives. For love, family, life, etc., everyone has their own opinions, and by discussing novels, let themselves know more about themselves. A good novel can change your life, a good movie can change your life.
Prudie, a French teacher in high school who has a waning relationship with her husband and who is also in love with her student, is a struggling character. In the end, she stopped at the traffic light instead of going into the unruly world, but read "Persuasion" to her husband.
Sylvis is a woman who just divorced her husband. When she heard about the divorce from her husband, she was a weakling, and she felt that her life was dark. But slowly she began to accept a new life, and became a more beautiful, confident and sexy woman.
Jocely is someone who shuts down her feelings, so she keeps dogs. At first she just wanted to match Grigg and Sylvis to get her out of the shadow of divorce. But when at Grigg's house, she watched the two of them chatting together, and her love revealed a woman's sense of loss. In the end she finally accepted Grigg's feelings.
Allegra is a lesbian, independent, extreme and always looking for love.
The film is very well shot, very life, and the details are in place. 6 people get together, each responsible for a book, and then discuss the characters in the book and their feelings. Because I am only familiar with "Pride and Prejudice", what movie talks about the characters and opinions in the book, I don't understand enough, I need to make up my homework when I have time, and then watch this film.

The Jane Austen Book Club quotes

  • Editor: Dear Ms. Corrine Mahern, we regret that we must decline to publish the three short stories you sent to us. 'Benny's Basketball' is strong narratively, but the depiction of your penis-waving retarded boy felt a little unkind. And isn't the title 'Separating Eggs For Flan' a bit obvious as a metaphor for your parents' divorce? Yet we confess that 'Skydiver' puzzled us most. Why would a beautiful, self-centered young lesbian jump out of a plane?

  • Jocelyn: If we stay in this lane, we're going to be late.

Grigg Harris: Given that I have to convert donut grease into biofuel every time I fill up the tank, I try not to drive very fast.

Jocelyn: We're barely moving... Why are you getting off here?

Grigg Harris: I enjoy seeing the river.

Jocelyn: What are you, Mark Twain? Now we're gonna get stuck at every light.
