Man's ambition

"Man's Ambition" is another translation of "Lian Lian Shan Cheng". In retrospect, this translated name is so appropriate.

Luo Guo's death was not due to human cruelty, but due to man's ambition. It was the man's ambition that pushed him step by step into the abyss of destruction.

When I finished watching the film, I had a feeling: I hate Luo Guo, why can't I slow down, first only develop part of the land, to ensure basic survival, and then seek development. The dry crops, hungry rabbits, and exhausted donkeys are all the products of men's ambitions. The woman who has lost support and hope, the sad girl, is also the product of man's ambition.

The farmer and his nephew were also the main cause of this tragedy. Their performances of destroying humanity for their own benefit stem from the ambition of men. Flowers are beautiful, water is precious, Mother Earth is compassionate, but under the influence of men's ambitions, they all become the source of evil.

Don't blame the heavens, don't blame the cruelty of human nature, everything happens because of the man's ambition.

Jean de Florette quotes

  • Cesar Soubeyran: [to Ugolin] He'll sell it. A pen makes less blisters than a pickaxe.

  • Ugolin: Is that why you rented this old farm?

Jean de Florette: I didn't rent it.

    Ugolin: Did you buy it?

Jean de Florette: I didn't buy it either, but it's all mine.

Ugolin: You're not Jean de Florette, are you?

Jean de Florette: I'm Jean, and my mother was Florette. But my real name is Jean Cadoret.

Ugolin: If you'd been born here, it would be Jean de Florette.
