It's a dark tragedy.
A police detective who was involved in solving a serial murder case a long time ago. The detective's daughter's best friend was involved in the process of solving the case. Due to the detective's mistake, the girl was stabbed several times and stopped breathing in front of the detective's eyes. The police couldn't let the public know that their own mistakes caused all this, so they disguised the scene. The detective fell into a heavy sense of guilt from then on. He couldn't forget the girl who looked straight into his eyes before she died, just like he couldn't forget his ugly self who caused a tragedy because of mistakes. In this way, he became the ultimate goal of the killer.
This is actually the process in which a person is slowly destroyed in the inner battle, or in other words, the process in which a person struggles to reach his ultimate destiny. If there is any difference between this film and the previous thriller mystery films, it is that the police are not a symbol of wisdom in this film, the incarnation of justice. They use their own careful reasoning or some random coincidences to finally kill the criminal. More have been brought to justice before. He is always entangled in guilt and can't extricate himself. He is withdrawn, vulnerable, and has a mild obsessive-compulsive disorder. In the confrontation with the criminal, he never dominated, it was the other party who was always guiding him, showing him a piece of "work".
The killer is gradually becoming a part of him. After his partner was cut open to make an ink bottle, he helped the killer complete the other half of the painting with that pen. The police instinct makes him always need an answer, he always needs a picture to be complete, but he can't decipher the ultimate fate hidden behind a series of pictures. And the fact that he discovered that the real murderer is still at large is the most difficult fact to face, and this is where his despair lies. The killer entered his life, affected his life, and the order began to go out of whack. He started drinking heavily and lived a life without the light of day. He was always silent because his heart was deserted.
The special idea in the film is about the "distortion painting method", also known as "Anamorph". The film mentions that this is a special painting method that appeared in the Renaissance, which uses perspective to draw two paintings on the same canvas. , from a different angle to see a completely different picture. The killer's series of murder scenes are such distorted paintings. From the previous one you can see the scene of the crime that will happen below. As for his own destiny, maybe he had a hunch before, so even if his daughter was in danger in the end, he still went alone. But he saw his dead daughter, the blood meandering into a craggy stream. Everything seems to have returned to the starting point. Facing the sense of powerlessness of guilt, the sense of guilt that cannot be escaped, he is in the complete darkness of the warehouse, just like his heart that has no shelter, there is nothing but despair and fear.
You have failed, you have compromised, and someone has paid for it with their lives.
So you struggle in pain and you can't forgive yourself for the rest of your life. Physical trauma is temporary, mental pain is eternal. So, the detective saw his final ending from the tattoo tattooed by the killer on his daughter's back:
Death is your destiny.
