I have seen the original book and this old movie many times. I don't actually want to write a movie review. I just want to commemorate this version of the classic dubbed by Qiu Yuefeng and Li Zi from Shanghai Film Studio. When I was a student, I was very obsessed with the dubbing of movies in translation studios, so I bought tapes and listened to and imitated with my classmates. I still remember many wonderful dialogues. The records are as follows:
Dialogue 1
Rochester: Still asleep?
Jane Eyre: How can I sleep without seeing you come back safely? How is Mr. Mason?
Rochester: He's fine. There is a doctor to take care of.
Jane Eyre: Is the danger you said last night over?
Rochester: It's hard to guarantee that Mason doesn't leave the UK. Hopefully the sooner the better.
Jane Eyre: He doesn't seem like someone who wants to kill you.
Rochester: Of course not. He may have harmed me unintentionally. sit down.
Jane Eyre: Who Exactly Is Grace Poole? Why are you keeping her?
Rochester: I have no choice.
Jane Eyre: How could it be...
Rochester: Please bear with me for a while, don't force me to answer. Me, how much I depend on you now. Ugh - what to do? simple. There is such an example, there is a young man who has been spoiled since he was a child, and he made a huge mistake. It's not a sin, it's a mistake, its consequences are dire, and the only escape is to get away and have fun. Later, he met a woman, a noble woman he had never seen in twenty years, and he found a chance to live again, but the worldly feelings hindered him, can that woman ignore these?
Jane Eyre: Are you talking about yourself, Mr. Rochester?
Rochester: Yes.
Jane Eyre: Everyone is responsible to God for their own actions, and cannot ask others to bear their own destiny, let alone Miss Ingram.
Rochester: Humph! Don't you think if I marry her, she can give me a complete new life?
Jane Eyre: Since you ask me, I don't think so.
Rochester: You don't like her? Let's be honest.
Jane Eyre: I don't think she's right for you.
Rochester: Aha, so confident? So who is suitable? Do you have anyone you can recommend?
Rochester: Are you used to living here?
Jane Eyre: I am very happy here.
Rochester: Are you willing to leave here?
Jane Eyre: Get out of here?
Rochester: I don't live here since I got married.
Jane Eyre: Of course, Adele can go to school, I can find something else.
Jane Eyre: I'm going in, I'm cold.
Rochester: Jane
Jane Eyre: Let me go
Rochester: Wait
Jane Eyre: Let me go
Rochester: Jane
Jane Eyre: Why are you telling me this? She has nothing to do with you or me. Do you think that I am poor and not good-looking, so I have no feelings? I will too. If God gave me wealth and beauty, I would make it as hard for you to leave me as it is for me now. God doesn't do that. Our spirits are equal, just as you and I will stand before God through the grave.
Rochester: Jane
Eyre: Let me go
Rochester: I love you. I love you.
Jane Eyre: No, don't make fun of me.
Rochester: Make fun of? I want you. Blanche what? I was nothing to her but her father's money to reclaim the land. Marry me, Jane, say you marry me.
Jane Eyre: Really?
Rochester: Ugh—you. Your doubts torment me, promise, promise.
Rochester: God forgive me, don't let anyone interfere with me. She is mine, mine.

Dialogue 2
Rochester: Who's there? Mrs Fairfax is that you? Is there anyone there? (to his dog) Well, well, ah, how can you be someone when there's no one there? Um? Is there anyone there? I say. Who is it?
Jane Eyre: It's Me
Rochester: Jane?
Jane Eyre: Yes
Rochester: Jane
Jane Eyre: Yes, yes
Rochester: Joke me
Rochester: Is that you? Jane, is it really you? you came to see me? I didn't expect this, eh? snort!
Rochester: What? Cried? No need to be sad. How long can you stay? An hour or two? Don't go. Well, or do you have a hotheaded husband waiting for you?
Jane Eyre: No
Rochester: Not married yet? This is not good. Jane, you are not beautiful, so you can't be too picky.
Jane Eyre: Yes
Rochester: Strange, why no one proposed to you?
Jane Eyre: I didn't say nobody proposed to me
Rochester: Got it. Yeah, that's fine, Jane, you should get married.
Jane Eyre: Yes, that's right, you should get married too, and you should not be too picky just like me.
Rochester: Ah, yeah, of course not. (clears throat) So when are you getting married? I picked up Adele from school.
Jane Eyre: What to marry?
Rochester: Hell, you didn't say you were getting married.
Jane Eyre: No
Rochester: Then sooner or later a fool will find you
Jane Eyre: I hope so. There's someone -- an idiot -- who's been looking for me already.
(Narrator) At this point, I saw tears streaming from his closed eyes.
Jane Eyre: I'm home, Edward, let me stay.

Jane Eyre quotes

  • Mrs. Fairfax: That's Mr. Edward's room. He's abroad, of course, but I always keep it ready for him. His visits are always so unexpected and sudden. A wanderer on the face of the Earth. That's what Mr. Edward is, I'm afraid.

  • Jane Eyre: It's very beautiful. I can't understand why a gentleman of a house like this so seldom comes to it

Mrs. Fairfax: It is strange, but you'll find, Miss Eyre, that in many ways, Mr. Edward is a strange man.
