The second half of this movie reminds me of the horror movie "The Fog", but "The Fog" tells us why it happened, and this movie just discusses, but it doesn't give us the answer, maybe in Hitchco In K's mind, does it matter if there is an answer? This seems to happen sooner or later, the rapid development of technology, the rapid degradation of the environment may cause this kind of intention but it is not important, because we do not know the answer in this movie. So what is the purpose of the communication in the hotel? In my opinion, when the discussions are fruitless and no answers and solutions can be found, people's emotions often overcome their rationality under disasters and panic, so the ignorant with two children Only women think that the heroine is a devil, and it was her visit that cast a dark cloud over the whole town, but I think the long discussion ended in such a hasty way without giving a conclusion. The movie is not finished, it feels like a lot of things are missing, and it is very empty. And the crow's intention couldn't be clearer (though it wasn't clear whether it was a blackbird or not). Some people discuss whether the male protagonist also has some "complex" with his mother, which is not the case in my opinion, although some lines in the film do give some hints, such as the teacher said that the male protagonist's mother is when they are in love. I didn't want to see her. After breaking up, the relationship between the two improved, and the male protagonist's mother did show a cold face when she first met the female protagonist, but the hint had already given the answer. The mother opened her heart to the female protagonist after being frightened. She is just afraid of being abandoned, she feels that she is useless (to rely too much on her dead husband before), so she will do this to her son's lover. There is always some casual sense of humor in Hitchcock's films, in which the heroine is driving on the highway so fast that every time she makes a turn, the lovebirds also shake their bodies to exaggerate the heroine. Drives fast, uses details to convey information, is very creative. What is the meaning of the appearance of the bird? It is prepared for horror? Or is it to show how small people are in nature? I don't know. I can't find an explanation in the movie, so I can only assume this.

Hitchcock's purest suspense movie, from the use of special effects to the pure sound effect processing without soundtrack, is captivating. The most terrifying picture is the static confrontation, and it is the attack of the smiling seagull for no reason. At the same time, it is embedded in the family. Whether the discussion of relationships, especially the role of mothers (an extension of Psycho), has anything to do with flocks of birds is another puzzling question.

Here, look at another original Hitchcock. After reading it, I was going to go shopping for groceries, but I was shocked when I heard the birds calling outside. Not bad, not scary, but the psychological thriller is in place.

The Birds quotes

  • Lydia Brenner: I'm not like this, you know. Not usually. I don't fuss and fret over my children.

  • Lydia Brenner: When Frank died... You see he understood the children, he really understood them. He had the knack of entering into their world, of becoming a part of them. That's a very rare talent.

    Melanie Daniels: Yes.

Lydia Brenner: Oh, I wish, I wish, I wish I could be that way.
