New world of the universe. Future fantasy.

I watched Pocahontas and Pocahontas 2 in a row last night. Of course, more people pay attention to how the heroine empathizes and falls in love with the rich boy. The background of the story is set as after Columbus discovered the New World of America, European countries occupied this land and expelled and slaughtered the Indians. This history is not very far from modern times.

The earth is so big. After hundreds or even thousands of years of exploration, human beings have been able to reach every corner of the earth, even the poorest and most dangerous places. The earth is gradually becoming saturated. I wonder if with the development of science and technology, one day, human beings will take a spaceship to explore the universe, and then find a brand new planet, which is suitable for human habitation like the earth. Then we, the earthlings, ran to the "New World" to lay a flag to claim its ownership, occupy the undeveloped land, and slaughter the local residents. Tell them that our civilization is superior to theirs and they are just a bunch of savages.

Or rather, just the other way around. That is what we have been worried about, being invaded by "aliens" on Earth. One day, a strange spaceship landed in a corner of the earth. We earthlings are just like the Indians in the film, we are both curious and scared, watching in amazement a bunch of aliens walk down from the spaceship as if nothing had happened, carrying the things in the spaceship like no one else, just like the earth already belongs to them. generally. We have always thought that our civilization is already highly developed and our technology is incomparable. But in front of these aliens, we have become savages, unbelievable savages. They claim to be coming to "exploit" our land, to take over our planet, to wander around to see what is profitable. Of course, human beings on earth are not to be provoked. The heads of countries decided to hold an emergency meeting in the United Nations building to discuss how to fight, if all countries can hold their breath and form a collective headed by the United Nations. In the end, it turned out that when our weapons didn't work, we came up with a peaceful solution. It's a pity that aliens disdain us savages, how could they give up force to solve it?

If so, would we humans agree to such an encroachment? Would you accept such a result? When we take other people's things and other people's places, we are so arrogant that we think it should be because they are savages and because their civilization does not deserve our respect. But when things are reversed, it will feel that this or that encroachment is unreasonable and unacceptable. This is the so-called double standard.

Think about what we should do if we find another planet suitable for human habitation. Or, what should we do when we become that piece of fat in other people's mouths. These two questions should be thought about, because such a thing is no longer far away from us humans.

= = I always thought of this when I watched Avatar, so I found it and read it again

I like the ending, but would this film, even as an anime, still over-beautify/idealize that history to some extent...and I'm very resentful that the childhood sweetheart Kocoum died and Pocahontas didn't feel sorry for him? ...

Pocahontas quotes

  • Thomas: [as a bugle is being played] John, you better get down here! The governor's coming ashore!

John Smith: [blows an attacking Flit away from his face] All right, all right! I'm leaving.

  • Ben: [Captain John Smith has just jumped off the ship during a storm to save Thomas] Smith! Are you crazy?
