great movie

German war movies are always so classic. Although this movie is quite long, it's still quite good. I like the man who plays the captain...
As a war movie, I don't think this one has more decoration, so it's just More realistic, more than 5 hours in length, it may make people feel bored, there are few dialogues, often face-to-face, and there is no omission of any subtle description of human nature and inner activities in it—— Even without more lines.
Some people may think that in these 5+ hours - only sunk a few merchant ships, was hit several times, only docked once for resupply, and finally had a somewhat dramatic tragic result - is it a bit too boring? Bored? And I think that's exactly that, in stark contrast to the dramatic American blockbusters - that's why European films are worth more than American ones. The U-571 with the same theme in the United States is good-looking and good-looking, but it is too far behind to arouse the audience's inner resonance at all.

Das Boot quotes

  • Captain: I'm sorry.

    Lt. Werner: Is it hopeless?

Captain: It's been 15 hours. He's not going to pull it off. I'm sorry.

Lt. Werner: I asked for it. 'To be heading into the inexorable... where no mother will care for us... no woman crosses our path... where only reality reigns... with cruelty and grandeur.' I was drunk with those words. Well, this is reality.

  • Ario: [the engines have restarted] They're... they're running. I think they're running!

Der Leitende: Who says you can't make something out of nothing?

[the LI laughs a nervous, giddy, girly giggle]
