silent film

When I watch this movie, I always think of the domestic bad movies that use the chat window and SMS interface to explain the development of the plot. Compared with the shortcomings of technical means in the silent film era, many movies waste the shots on words. While most of the dialogue in the film is self-explanatory, George's performance is never as exaggerated as stated.
Just like Ruan Lingyu and "Yuguang Song" mentioned in the textbook, it can be said to be a household name. Now, not many people have seen or even been interested in spending half an hour in front of a black and white film. I thought this was a sad story, the decline of silent films and the withering of an era. A hundred years later, silent films have disappeared. However, silent films have been brilliant once, with their own era and their own audience, at least, they have lived their lives in vain.
That is, like George, when facing the transition of two eras, the past is a precious memory, and the present is a bright future.

The male protagonist is really charming, and the corners of his eyes and brows are full of drama.

This is a time machine: take you back to the time when the pictures were still black and white, the ratio was still 1.33:1, the frame rate was still 22fps, and silent movies were slowly replaced by newborn babies called talkies. "The Artist" pays tribute to classic films such as "Citizen Kane", "Singing in the Rain" and "The Adventures of Tintin". PS: The prototype of burning film is from Georges Méliès.

The Artist quotes

  • George Valentin: [talking about Uggie] If only he could talk.

  • Peppy Miller: [trying to pressure the studio into letting her do a film with George] I won't work anymore. It's either him or me.

    [Zimmer appears bemused]

Peppy Miller: What I mean is, it's him AND me! Or it's neither of us!

[everybody is still looking at her blankly]

Peppy Miller: Hey, I'm blackmailing you! Get it?
