infinite loop of fear

In this type of film, there is a lot of controversy about the understanding of the plot. I prefer that Room 1408 is a murderous room with supernatural phenomena, not just the subjective phenomenon of the male protagonist's schizophrenia.
The male protagonist is a novelist who does not believe in ghosts, souls and beliefs. Ironically, he makes a living by writing ghost novels, so such a character is destined to be the best choice for the protagonist of the story. In this murderous room, a series of supernatural events happened that made the protagonist begin to believe in the existence of supernatural beings. In the face of terrifying forces, he became irrational. He tried to escape, but could not find an exit. With hope and a new life, the protagonist once again falls into this endless cycle of terror. This is the most terrifying part of the murderous world. The endless darkness and unseen hope are the things that can break faith the most. In the face of the murderer's suicide and the continuation of the cycle, the protagonist's flash of humanity finally defeated the evil. For the sake of his wife and the lives of more innocent people, he chose to die with the murderer.
The downside of the film is the lack of foreshadowing, which greatly reduces the creation of a terrifying atmosphere. John Cusack's performance is great, Cerol Jackson is not my type of actor, especially disgusting his often-cited "well well well". A good film is that it has a good story, and Stephen King's novel adaptation will inevitably become a guarantee of film quality.

    Stephen King's cookie cutter + Cusack's one-man show. 2 and a half stars.

1408 quotes

  • Mike Enslin: [yelling] I want... my *drink*!

  • Gerald Olin: [pats documents regarding 1408's victims] I will let you have this, give you access to my office, you can take notes and put it all in your book. My only condition... is that you do not stay in that room.

Mike Enslin: You'll let me look at all that stuff?

    [considering Olin's offer]

    Gerald Olin: Hmm.

Mike Enslin: I never did get that drink.

[Olin pours a glass of the $800 whiskey, handing it to Enslin. Enslin takes a sip]

Mike Enslin: Ooh, that is good.

Gerald Olin: [smiling] Here, keep it. Compliments of the house.

    [hands bottle to Enslin]

Mike Enslin: [after dropping the bottle into his bag and taking another sip] I'm still staying.

Gerald Olin: [yelling] Dammit to hell!
