after a night

A film that does not need color records the past and present of the two.

The hero, Jim, returns to his hometown and prepares to renovate his late mother's old house, hesitating whether to sell it or keep it. Amanda returns to town to visit her pregnant sister. Two childhood sweethearts in high school met in a supermarket more than 20 years later, embarrassingly saying hello repeatedly to hide their panic. When they met again in the parking lot, Jim offered to go to the former coffee shop for a cup of coffee, Amanda readily agreed, and the two began to meet for half a day and one night.

The coffee in the Blue Jay coffee shop has lost its old flavor, and there are awkward conversations. When they came out to separate, they passed a familiar grocery store, and when the familiar shopkeeper recognized the old pair of lovebirds and mistook them for still a pair, they pretended to admit it, and the familiar rhythm reconnected. By the familiar lake, Amanda talks about her happy life, which triggers Jim's sadness about his unmarried and unemployed life. Amanda's repeated consolation makes the situation worse, but Jim hands her the remaining pink and purple jelly beans, But it is Amanda's sweetest memory.

Amanda suggested to take a look at his old house, which is like countless time capsules, which contain all kinds of things more than 20 years ago. Jim in high school has not yet grown a beard. His mother keeps the clothes Jim wore in high school. Jim persistently writes down the bits and pieces of Amanda's past in his diary, and he looks forward to a bright future between the lines. Amanda found an unsent letter addressed to herself in the cloakroom, which she slipped into her pocket. They were immersed in the memory of the old tapes, Jim proposed to refill the tapes, they pretended to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary, Amanda simply prepared some instant noodles and eggs, they sang and danced, so you don't have to say, I understand the tacit understanding. They were lying in the carriage of the truck, looking up at the stars, when Amanda confided to Jim that she was not happy. As the stepmother of two children, her husband was 64 years old, and she was starting to prepare for old age. Depression medicine, I haven't cried in five years. They kiss, Jim says he still loves her, and she faces reality and is ready to leave. The letter slipped from the clothes, shattering Jim's flimsy protective casing, and the two collapsed at a loss.

The day dawned, and when a new day began, everything returned to reality. The ending reveals the reason for their separation, Amanda got pregnant at the end of high school, Jim was scared to back off, Amanda went to get an abortion alone, and Jim just sent a "get well soon" note, and she left town sadly. In the parking lot, Jim insists she read the unsent letter, the original version of the "Get well soon" note that Jim wants to stay with her and keep the child, but that's a thing of the past. Amanda released her emotions to her heart's content, tears streaming down her eyes for the first time in five years, complaining about why Jim didn't send this late letter, maybe...

Black and white movies, simple conversations, two people, one night, more than 20 years of separation, full of youthful memories, but the reality is like this, without life, no one can return to the past. Just like the familiar Blue Jay coffee shop, lost the original taste of the two of them, and the coffee also lost the old taste, this is the bitter reality.

After a night, the past is with the wind.
