American TV Express, The Mist Season 1

The summer vacation is coming, and I am going to try to write some recommendations for American dramas (foresight, etc.) and share them with young people who are in the famine period. I hope you can have a fulfilling and meaningful vacation.
In the first issue today, I will introduce the first season of the latest American drama "The Mist" (the Mist) (as of today, 3 episodes have been broadcast).

This work is adapted from Stephen King's short horror novel "The Mist" written in the 1980s. It tells the story of a series of bizarre events that occurred after an unknown fog shrouded the town.

Although it is an adaptation, due to the length of the original work, the TV version has been expanded in terms of content, characters and events. This is easy to understand. After all, 10 episodes will be played. If there is no original plot to join, it is impossible to achieve this goal.

After chatting about the basic outline of some works, then entering the detailed explanation and discussing the reasons for recommendation, it is purely personal opinion and is for reference only.
I. Fascinating original + elusive original As
mentioned earlier, the author of the original is the famous Stephen King, the master who wrote many best-selling works such as "The Shining" and "The Shawshank Redemption". So you don't have to worry about the level of the original work at all, there is no doubt about the level of brilliance.

As for the original part, there are only three episodes online now, and it's not over half of it, so I can't make a rash assertion. But one thing is worth affirming, that is, the foreshadowing of the plot, which is meticulous and reasonable, is quite worthy of the audience's aftertaste. (The two main lines are basically established. One line is for mother and daughter, and the other line for male protagonist is starting to enter the upgrade mode of fighting monsters, ha)

II. Character Depiction + Plot Guidance
The characters in the play have different personalities and are quite recognizable. This alone is enough to prove that the director and the screenwriter are very thoughtful about the character design in the play. For example, the protective mother Eve, the smart and wise father Kevin, the rebellious daughter Alex, the gay boy Adrian, the drug addict Mia, the amnesiac soldier, the eager sheriff Connor, and so on.

In terms of plot, I would like to emphasize that please do not compare this work with the 2007 movie version. The TV version is not adapted from the movie version, but improved and expanded on the basis of the novel, so there is no comparability. Based on the status of the few episodes that have been broadcast, the style of the opening chapter is somewhat similar to the classic American drama "The Walking Dead". First, enough descriptions of various characters are made, the suspense is piled up, and the story unfolds slowly. You can look forward to the subsequent story trends, including fog monsters, revealing human nature, contradictions and contradictions, and so on.

III. Slightly embarrassing special effects + normal atmosphere creation
As a thriller, the visual effects of the TV version are unsatisfactory. I don’t know if the funds are not enough or the relevant staff are not attentive enough. In short, in the first three episodes, it did not reflect what Hollywood should have. effect level. The "Mist" seems to be a chemical effect made of dry ice. As for those bloody and disgusting images - a woman whose jaw was gnawed by an unknown creature; a policeman who was gnawed by a poisonous insect; The fusion of special effects technology and makeup is more qualified, but that's it, so-so.

When it comes to the creation of the horror atmosphere of the film, the overall impression is not enough, but more than the next. How to understand?
Frankly speaking, the horror texture of this work is too flat, and it basically stays at "picture + sound effect" (original collocation). This is the routine used in many works, and it is also the most basic routine. It uses images + background music to create a terrifying atmosphere. More, it will be boring. If in the future plot design, these "sense of horror" can be three-dimensionalized, combined with music through pictures, and then superimposed with psychological hints, to highlight the "terrorist texture" in an all-round way, I believe that more audiences will enter the pit to chase the drama.

Write at the end. From a neutral standpoint, I casually chatted about the status of this new American drama, hoping to help my friends who are keen on British and American dramas.

Director★★★★★(Bringing together a number of big-name directors, such as Adam Bernstein who directed "Breaking Bad", Guy Ferland of "Shield", and James Hawes of "Black Mirror")
Actor★★★★☆(How to say What? In terms of appearance, it is more in line with European and American aesthetic standards, especially the heroine Eve is played by Australian supermodel Alyssa Sutherland. Freckles + big mouth + long legs = sexy. In terms of acting skills, Alex played by Gus Birney is weaker, others The characters are basically played stably)
Plot ★★★☆☆ (slow foreshadowing, the original work is combined with originality, human thinking + fog monsters, as for whether to play the "human nature card", or take the "monster route", or interweave, need the audience Be patient and wait for the follow-up to be announced)
Visual effects★☆☆☆☆(It seems relatively weak now, as for the future direction, it remains to be seen)
Sound effects★★★☆☆(It is relatively light, the concept and flavor are compared with similar Japanese-style films Similar)
Expectation ★★★★☆ (It is necessary to follow the drama, I mainly want to see the contest
of human nature) Recommendation ★★★☆☆ (especially recommended for those who have not seen the original or the movie version)
