The film's winning in the United States does not mean that the Chinese can accept it, because most of us are not familiar with the story described in the film.

I have read the chapter about McCarthyism in "Glory and Dreams", and I was very impressed by the confrontation between the lawyers of the Army Department and McCarthy himself (which happens to be a short documentary in this film), but I was not too impressed by the story of CBS. Of course, after watching the film, I immediately flipped out the book and read it again.

In this historical context, we understand what George Clooney wants to express: the sense of justice and conscience of people in times of crisis.
