Not just an extreme sports film, but an exploration of human nature and beliefs

This is not just an extreme sports documentary, but reflects the current state of society: the upper class dehumanizes and consumes other people's lives for their beliefs and a good story, while the lower class is forced to lose their lives for glory.

When the two of them had dinner with the reporter before the climb, the editor-in-chief's toast was for glory and pride in facing challenges; after the toast, they couldn't wait to ask them to talk a little more about mountaineering, because that was the fodder for the story, and it was smooth after finishing the toast. Then he answered: the feed was for animals; before the two of them had successfully climbed the mountain, they celebrated in advance and ate a cake shaped like a mountain; and when they knew they were going to retreat, the editor-in-chief lost interest, and was trying again. It's still newsworthy to tell new stories, knowing that maybe they'll be stuck in a snowstorm.

In order to cross the class and climb up from the bottom, the heroine has done a lot of absurd things, but still retains the most basic emotions and human nature of people, and is a confused and contradictory character in the film. For example, after knowing that there is a lot of risk in climbing, they continue to tell them that this is an opportunity to cross the class, hoping that they will agree to climb the mountain for themselves; but give a sincere blessing when toasting before the mountain: return safely! In the face of a good story and individual life, he chose to try many times to rescue the climber against the will of the editor-in-chief.

What kind of belief is that requires sacrificing the most simple and basic relationship between people and sacrificing life.

  • [first lines]

    [in German, quoting English subtitles]

Luise Fellner: [voiceover] When you're at the bottom - Toni once told me - at the foot of the wall, and you look up, you ask yourself: How can anyone climb that? Why would anyone even want to? But hours later when you're at the top looking down, you've forgotten everything. Except the one person you promised you would come back to.

  • [last lines]

    [in German, quoting English subtitles]

Luise Fellner: [voiceover] All I know is that death spared me, and that Toni went away forever that day. One has lived if one has loved. There are times when I find this infinitely hard to believe. Most days I feel that I am alive. And that love is the reason for that.
