Detective Poirot is entrusted by Sir to investigate the missing diamond. Sir once gave Alena the diamond, but what Alena returned was fake. Sir believed that Alena had deceived him and asked Poirot to investigate the matter and retrieve the diamond.
Alena goes wild and has an affair with the handsome young Patrick at the Island Hotel. This is not only known to Alena's husband, but also to Patrick's wife. The guests looked at it, but didn't say it.
