At the beginning of December 2019, the Rotterdam movie was released in October in the Netherlands. It also received rave reviews in the Netherlands. It was also listed in the top three editorial departments of the 2019 cineville. I have to say that french arthouse is still very popular in the Netherlands. I specifically contacted Changxiao Cinema to ask for an additional screening of expat house (English word), but I didn't expect to agree very readily
After watching the movie for more than a month, I have been thinking about why this movie touched me so much. After watching many interviews, I feel that I finally have the answer
The director (also the screenwriter) is thoughtful, extremely rigorous, rational, critical, demanding, and precise. These qualities may not meet most people's assumptions about the "creation process", but they definitely meet my definition of the possibility of "the condition of creation"
French high-level art, literature, philosophy, and society. The first two can be seen and heard. The latter two vary from person to person. These layers are sandwiched in such a concise film, full and powerful, and then excellent rhythm. Everything is experiential/fresh The prerequisites of living art make the whole film not didactic but full of emotion
A thousand readers a thousand Hamlets
What I like most is the definition of love in the film, equality/understanding/intellectual stimulation. With these, there is generosity/love, which is why I read the love described in the film is extremely broad.
My personal experience of a full relationship is very similar to that of love. The most extreme romance is that of intellectual resonance.
Totally agree with Adele saying in an interview that love is a discussion, it is critic.
This essense to me can also be deduced to the fact that I have experienced some other profound relationships even for five minutes. It is exciting and passionate because you challenge me to the unknown. We make each other evolve. I am a new person when we are together . Best thing that could happen when you meet someone.
