Compared with the new version in 2021, at least this version has a more complete story and a clearer explanation of the story background and worldview, and is more friendly to the audience who are new to the story of Dune. However, there are more narrations and the voices of the characters in the film, and they are important clues to advance the development of the plot, which may reduce the degree of excitement. In addition, the narrative is relatively flat, it will be similar to a running account, and it lacks the depth of the story and human thinking. Although I have not read the original book, I believe it is definitely much deeper than the movie.

It is a little bit obscure. It is a great mistake to hand the script to this director. If Sadolovsky could direct the film himself, then he would definitely not be as perfunctory as David Lynch. David Lynch can definitely be called a good director, but he is not suitable for such cult space opera themes. He should still shoot some noir films about Freud's psychology. 3.5 stars
