Edge of Heaven: Heaven is not my share

This film is literally translated as "Edge of Heaven" in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and the title of the film on the market is "On the Other Side of Life", which seems to mean "Written on the edge of life" that Qian Zhongshu said. I don't want to go that far. No matter how this name is translated, it has a literary flavor. It is both life and heaven. Does it teach any profound truth?

Actually no.

If you have access to Fatih Akin's work, you should not have trouble with this issue. What he is keen to express has always been the ethnic groups living in foreign countries and their descendants, especially the Turkish descendants of German nationality. Because Faith Arkin himself is a typical second-generation Turkish immigrant in Hamburg, it is normal for him to miss his father's homeland.

"Edge of Paradise" is a story that takes place in Germany and Turkey. The film is divided into three paragraphs with subtitles, and the form is neat. The fate of the three families is intertwined, and the love and hate of the six characters are intertwined, connecting different time and space backgrounds. "The Edge of Heaven" is easily reminiscent of "Babel" (Babel), but the theme is not as big as "Babel", after all, the latter involves four countries with one gun, and the film repeats only the cost Arkin's Transnational Cultural Clash. For the tragedy caused by suspicion and misunderstanding, "Edge of Paradise" did not give a complete understanding of hugging and crying, but let the son wait for his father's return from overseas.

These are far from the highlights of the film. On the surface, "Edge of Paradise" gives countless coincidences and possibilities. According to the general screenwriting method, characters with different backgrounds will meet at some point in the middle of the film, and at the same time make the audience sigh "that's how it is" -- but "Edge of Paradise" resolves the above possibilities. The film won the Best Screenplay Award at Cannes. The genius lies not in the three-stage and multiple clues, but in this resolution. "Edge of Paradise" resolves the different searches contained in the film: the daughter goes to Germany to find her mother, the mother goes to Turkey to find her daughter, and the son goes back to his hometown to find his father; they could have spoken to each other and moved you and me, but the film avoided them. They don't live in heaven and only lead on the fringes to teach the jokes of life.

From "In July," "Head-On," to "Edge of Paradise," Istanbul has been the destination of Faith Arkin's stories and characters. The Bosphorus Bridge connecting Eurasia is the charm of Istanbul. For Europe, this is the beginning of the East. Decades ago, Turkey tried to leave Asia and join the European Union. Until Eastern European countries joined the European Union, there was still no progress. Behind the unpopularity is more than Eurasian differences? Different religious beliefs, different cultures and civilizations, and different levels of development, all of which affect Turkey's national trends, and then fall to a Turk who is abroad - such as Yete in the first paragraph. That's exactly what "Edge of Paradise" says.

    1. At a certain moment, I was so sad that I couldn't help myself; 2. Many coincidences were deliberately decorated by the director, but they still did not make people feel abrupt and unacceptable; 3. The father and son reconciled and the mother understood the daughter. Charming; 4. Finally I listened to the sound of the waves for more than 6 minutes.
