In Herzog's new film "The Adventure at the End of the World", there is a story about penguins.

A scientist who has studied penguins for 20 years said that

some penguins will be mentally disturbed, they will lose their way, and they will get lost.

Later, the camera took us to a group of male penguins that ran to the northern seas to hunt for food.

However, one of them, standing in the snow for a long time,

turned his head and ran straight towards the mountains in the south. It is

impossible for him to cross Antarctica . , do so, and it will surely die.

But why?

At an inland observatory, scientists often encounter penguins going the wrong way.

They don't look back, they don't stay, they glide happily towards the mountains to the south.

But why?

At the end of the film, scientists observing the volcano enter a natural ice cave.

These caves may release toxic gases at any time, and no one knows where they lead.

But why?

In the tidbits of the film, we see an iceberg, and there are many dead penguins around the iceberg.

Are they here to worship? Or a graveyard of paranoia?

Did they all die here?

But why?

Traveler, what are you looking for?

Thinking of these, can not help but moved.

A calm observation, with a little personal humor. Antarctica is also a small life for normal people! 4 stars are for that majestic nature, Antarctica. As for the content, it's a bit sloppy

Encounters at the End of the World quotes

  • Samuel S. Bowser: The creatures that are down there are like science fiction creatures. They range in the way that they would gobble you up from slime-type blobs, but creepier than classic science fiction blobs - these would have long tendrils that would ensnare you, and as you try to get away from them you just become more and more ensnared by your own actions. And then after you would be frustrated and exhausted, then this creature would start to move in and take you apart. So that's one example of one of the creatures, then there are other types of worm-type things with horrible mandibles and jaws and just bits to rend your flesh.

  • Werner Herzog: I noticed that the divers in their routine were not speaking at all. To me, they were like priests preparing for mass. Under the ice the divers find themselves in a separate reality where space and time acquire a strange, new dimension. Those few who have experienced the world under the frozen sky often speak of it as going down into the cathedral.
