the power of music

The whole film has a gray tones, exactly the kind I don't like, and it's a very depressing color to watch. I'm still sensitive to colors, and I like tender and colorful movies, but this one is about piano, so I decided to watch it. (Actually, I also attracted the male protagonist. He is quite handsome, haha, but he is too short and wears high heels~)

Of course, all the processing of the shots is for the theme. So the dull tone is just to make people feel the depression of the protagonist. I understand. Especially when he went to the Vietnamese woman's house to learn the piano, a clean and bright white atmosphere infected me. The red sweater that the piano teacher always wears, and the milky white room is lined with the shiny black piano. The great contrast of colors is like the emotional subversion of the characters. I like this feeling~

The night before the audition, he was forced to collect debts. In the dark night, he moved his fingers repeatedly and played an imaginary piano sonata. The flickering lights fluttered in his hand, stumbling like a night butterfly, I really couldn't help following his hand, playing together...

I wanted to talk about myself. Although I was forced to play the piano when I was a child, I may not fall in love with this behemoth now, but the feelings of more than ten years are still accumulated. It should be said that it also made me who I am today, honing my stamina and concentration. I learned to be patient. And, not like the male protagonist, I just accumulated it for a while to vent later, and I resolved all those resentments. After all, I still have music and my own life. Although it's not a big dream, thinking about it makes me more motivated to realize that dream.

Music, in fact, can dissolve all kinds of negative emotions such as hatred.
In the end, the male protagonist who went to the concert finally let go of the hand that shot at the enemy who killed his father, and used his graceful gesture to show everyone music and beauty.

How did the director, who is so sensitive to the details of life, think of finding a Vietnamese girl to play the Chinese role, and it's still so dirty. . .

3.5. The restless and shaky footage may be a request for realism, or it may be a symbol of the male protagonist's irritable mood. As a drama, the first half is quite boring, showing the character's daily life trivially in the picture, even makes me a little unable to understand why I have to "learn the piano". Later, the background of the characters and the story gradually became clearer and clearer, but the little reversal at the end was not well understood. Maybe Jacques's interest is in realism and anti-inspirational things, but some old-fashioned elements in the movie (gangster + revenge) have worn away the edge of realism, and even a little hypocritical. Now think about it, no wonder Odia has the style of later crossover genre films.

  • Sami: Playing piano is making you flip. Stop it now!

Thomas Seyr: Nothing's making me flip. I'm not flipping. I'm having a ball. I feel fantastic, dont' you see? It's important, I'm serious about it.

Sami: You gonna make dough from pianos?

Thomas Seyr: Not pianos, the piano! It's not about making money, it's about art.

Sami: What's in it for us? You coming to meetings all, 'Hi guys, I've been playing piano.' Shit, I'll take up the banjo.

Thomas Seyr: It's over your head
