Even the Rain (2010)

Great movie, here are my personal notes.

1) Background The story of the discovery of the New World is best told

by the Spaniards.

The film tells the story of Spanish director Sebastian and producer Costa, who brought his shooting team to Bolivia, Bolivia's third largest city, Cochabamba (Chinese translation: Cochabamba), to shoot an epic movie about the invasion of America by white people.

2)

The filming process of the film Sebastian was turbulent: the selection of the indigenous actors was too many to be written, and the people who were not written were dissatisfied; the Boo woman refused to cooperate in the filming of the immersion of the baby; The protagonist's local Daniel was arrested for taking to the streets to fight; the director fell ill under heavy pressure and almost couldn't make an important scene.

3) The play within the play The

play in the play tells the history of 500 years ago. Antón played Columbus in the style. He was an actor for money, and most of the invaders were also for fame and fortune.

Others are represented by missionaries for things other than money. This is exactly the background of Sebastian's group entering the country of Bolivia (they are foreigners, rich and powerful).

There are also indigenous resistance and persecution in the play, which also reflects the current situation of the Bolivian people resisting the privatization of drinking water by foreign businessmen.

4) It was not the right time for Sebastian and his entourage outside the theater

to come to Cochabamba to film, because in 2000, the "first water war" in Bolivia was about to break out.

--------------- Bolivian civilians vs. 3B. -------------

3B is Bechtel (U.S.-funded developer), World Bank (World Bank) and Banzer (then President of Bolivia).

The Bolivian State later borrowed money from the World Bank. In order to repay the money, the World Bank Put pressure on Bolivia to sell off a lot of public service infrastructure.

Bechtel, favored by the U.S. government, has won the right to develop the water supply system in Bolivia. The company specializes in “investing” in poor countries. From time to time, there have been exploitation scandals. In Bolivia under Bechtel’s management, the water fee has increased by 200% for one month. Vegetable vendors who earn less than $67 have to pay a monthly water bill of $6.6 (10% of their income), and those with a small amount of money will be charged the same, from $14 to $26.

In this context, Bolivian native actor Daniel walked to the crowd and led the national resistance.

5) 500 years later, the situation is still the same. The two stories in the

film overlap. Daniel's role in the play is aboriginal; in front of the border is Sebastian's actor, who has to cooperate with the filming team; outside the border, he has to fight on the streets.

Not only the characters, but also the time.

Once in the Americas in the 15th century, the natives were exploited and persecuted by white invaders. Once in the millennium, the aborigines opposed the privatization of public services and launched marches to block roads, and the government dispatched armed police to suppress them. After that... the event came to an end for the time being.

All in all, this is a story of the weak being snatched away.

Antón: Because I'm always very, very, thirsty.

Costa: But can you get through this ? We are screwed without you.

Antón: It's great to feel needed.

  • Daniel: [starting a rally chant] Rifle or gun, the people never run!
