In the very early VCD era, I watched the Mandarin-dubbed "Maze of Evil", starring Sharon Stone and Isabella Agani, and Kathy Bates as the detective. At the time, I thought it was very beautiful, but the horror effect was a little worse, and the eroticism was a little bit more, especially when there was a naked picture of Agani at the beginning, which was really suspected of selling dog meat. And the ending wasn't satisfying enough, and the suggestion that the two women were gay was a little unrealistic.
Later in the DVD era, I watched the CC version of "Bathroom Love Murder" and realized that the original version was much better than the Hollywood version. Black and white films can actually better enhance the horror effect, and the cold plot makes people feel a little chill. I remember a time when the doctor who saw my wife left in a car. In the car, her colleague asked her about her condition. He said: 'I can take her to my clinic, but I hate hearses parked at my door. I don't like it-----" After a pause and a smile, he added: "The patient doesn't like it either. "In addition, the ending of the film is also long aftertaste, making people daydream. Some people say that it has the taste of Hitchcock, but it can only be a matter of opinion.
This film also ranks in the top ten best horror movies on IMDB, not to be missed.

The heroine, who is not calm, knows what will happen from the beginning of the fight, although there is a subtle open ending at the end.

The model of saving a play at the end of a great ending is a favorite of many directors, from Hitchcock and Billy Wilder to later Nate Shyamalan and Amamba. But from my point of view, obviously, at least in this drama, Clouzot isn't doing that well. The suspenseful atmosphere is greatly reduced by the lengthy narrative, a bit like Huang Jianxiang's "Italian Song" at the World Cup, which only called out the sleepy audience at the end.

Diabolique quotes

  • Plantiveau, le concierge: Watch out, ma'am. That's the deep part where you are.

Christina Delassalle: There is no danger. I can swim.

Plantiveau, le concierge: That don't mean a thing. It's always the ones who know how that get drowned. The ones who can't, don't go near the pool.

    Plantiveau, le concierge: Headmaster!

    Michel Delassalle: Yes.

Plantiveau, le concierge: Isn't it time I rang the bell?

Michel Delassalle: It's okay. I'll unload the car myself.
