"Apocalypse Now" movie script (Note 1)

Text/[United States] Jo Milius, F Coppola

Translation/Chen Duchen

jungle

The war in the Vietnam jungle. The screen was full of white smoke, indicating that it had been bombarded violently, and the smoke had covered the coconut trees in the jungle.

Several helicopters flew around the treetops. But I don't know why the noise of the plane seems to be far away, everything is like a dream, even very beautiful. A close-up of a man faintly appeared on the screen, and then disappeared. The focus of the camera slowly fixed on the man's face. It was Captain Willard lying on his back on the bed drunk.

The propeller of a helicopter flying over the jungle has a four-leaf electric fan hung on the ceiling and constantly rotates. Willard woke up blindly from his dream.

Hotel room. Saigon (daylight)

The light in the room with the shutters down is dim. Willard got down from the bed with a wine glass in his hand, staggered to the window, and opened the blinds. A ray of sunlight came into the house, and it was day outside. Willard looked at the street outside the window, then walked back to the bed and lay down.

Willard's voice: "It's still Saigon, fuck! I'm still in Saigon. I always think like this when I go to bed: I wake up and have returned to the jungle.... I missed the jungle even more when I returned to my hometown on my first vacation. However, when I wake up, I am always empty. Talking with my wife is nothing more than agreeing to divorce. When I am here, I often want to go back to my hometown, but when I return to my hometown, I want to go back to the jungle again and again.... Come here. It’s been a week since I waited for orders. My body is getting weaker and weaker. When I was wasting time in this room, the Viet Cong guys who dived into the jungle were always accumulating their strength. Every time I looked around, I felt this. The walls of one room are gradually approaching me...."

The shirtless Willard danced in a small room like a demon. The phantom of a napalm bomb exploded in the jungle again. Willard, bent and twisted, stretched out his arms and smashed the mirror on the wall with his fists. He looked strangely at the blood flowing out of his hand, still drinking desperately, and continued to jump wildly. Pause for a while; he looked up at the ceiling and let out a broken, extremely depressed cry.

Hotel stairs (daytime)

The two soldiers hurried up the stairs of the hotel. One of them is wearing a sergeant's epaulettes.

Willard's voice: "Everyone wants to get what they want. What I want is to perform the task, and they have brought me a sinful person with the right task. It really seems to be a home delivery...."

The sergeant knocked on Willard's door.

Sergeant: "Is Captain Willard home,"

Willard (voice-over): "Wait a minute, come and open the door."

Willard's voice: "This is the best task. With this kind of task, I won't want to take on any tasks in the future."

Willard, with blood stains on his face and alcohol, ran to open the door naked.

Willard: "What's the matter?"

Sergeant: "What happened? Mr. Captain."

Willard: "Isn't this good for me."

Sergeant: "Are you Captain Willard of the fifty-fifth brigade?"

Willard: "Yes."

Sergeant: "Is it from the 173rd paratrooper?"

Willard: "Yes."

Sergeant: "Is it assigned to the special operations squad?"

Willard (to the soldier standing outside the door): "Hey, close the door, okay."

The soldier followed the sergeant into the house and closed the door.

Hotel room (daytime)

Willard sat on the bed, with the sergeant and soldiers standing in front of him.

Sergeant: "Please come to the airport with me. This is an order from a superior."

Willard: "What crime?"

Sergeant: "Huh?"

Willard: "Did I do anything bad?"

Sergeant: "You did not commit a crime, Mr. Captain. Order you to report to Nha Trang's intelligence instructions headquarters."

The sergeant handed the report notice to Willard.

Willard: "That's true."

Sergeant: "No question."

Willard: "Should I go to Nha Trang?"

Sergeant: "Yes. (As he deadlifts Willard who is lying on the bed again, he says) Mr. Captain, there are two hours before departure. You should prepare. (To the soldier) Deb, help Get busy. He is too drunk."

Soldier: "Mr. Captain, take a shower."

Willard: "Leave me alone."

The sergeant and soldiers held Willard from both sides and said, "Take a bath, Mr. Captain."

The sergeant turned on the shower nozzle, and the water rushed down the violent Willard's head, and Willard screamed.

Helicopter field (daytime)

The helicopter landed on the ground, and Willard, the sergeant and his soldiers jumped off the plane.

Willard’s voice: "At this time I didn’t know that I was sent to the hell of this world. We spent a few weeks walking along a winding river hundreds of kilometers long. Above, this river is like a thick power transmission line that stretches into the throat of the battlefield... Its top plunges straight into Kurz’s feet...."

The three of Willard walked quickly across the training ground. A small group of soldiers is training.

Instruct the entrance of the headquarters (daytime)

Willard showed his ID to the guard and signed the register.

Willard’s voice: “Just as it’s not accidental when returning to Saigon, it’s not accidental that I wrote the memoir about Colonel Walta Kurz. Talking about him is actually talking about me. Your own business. If his business is a true revelation, then mine is the same."

Instruct a room in the headquarters (daytime)

The door opened and Willard stood at the door and saluted the three people in the room. The colonel asked Willard into the house and handed him a cigarette. There is also a general in military uniform and an ordinary person in casual clothes, who are leaning on the counter in the bar in the corner.

Willard: "Captain Willard is here to report!"

Colonel: "Captain, come in, don't be restrained. Do you smoke?"

Willard: "No, I don't smoke. Mr. Colonel."

Colonel (referring to the ordinary person): "Do you recognize him?"

Willard: "I don't recognize it."

Colonel: "Have you seen the general and me?"

Willard: "I haven't seen it with my own eyes."

Colonel: "You seem to spend a lot of time performing tasks alone."

Willard: "Yes."

Colonel: "From the material point of view, you are participating in intelligence activities, right? In other words, you are assigned to work in the spy department of the first headquarters, right?"

Willard: "I am inconvenient to answer this question, please forgive me."

The colonel picked up the folder on the table. The ordinary person in the bar was reading the newspaper, but he was listening carefully to Willard’s conversation with the colonel.

Colonel: "Have you ever undertaken the CIA mission in the first headquarters?"

Willard: "No."

Colonel: "On September 1, 1968, you assassinated government tax officials in the Guangzhi area."

Willard: "..."

Colonel: "Say it, Captain."

Willard: "I don't know anything about these types of operations and operations. Even if they have been, I can't talk about them."

The general, who had been sitting behind and listening, got up from his chair and walked to the already set table.

General: "Will you talk while eating? You're all hungry? Captain (pointing to the bandage on Willard's hand), what's wrong with your hand, is it hurt?"

Willard: "I went fishing during the vacation and got hurt..."

Willard sat down in the chair appointed by the general.

The colonel and the ordinary citizen also took their seats.

General: "Oh, it hurt from fishing."

Willard: "Yes."

General: "It's not serious, right? Doesn't it prevent you from accepting new tasks?"

Willard: "Of course it won't interfere, sir. It's always there for anyone."

General (looking around the dishes on the table): "What kind of dishes are there? Oh, there is roast beef, which must be very popular. (To the common people) Hey, Jenny, pass the dishes from both sides. This saves time. Captain, do you like to eat shrimp? If you can eat this kind of shrimp, there is no need to prove your courage."

Colonel (hands Willard a picture): "Have you heard the name of Captain Walta Kurz?"

Willard: "I've heard of the name."

Colonel: "Is a combat officer of the Fifth Special Forces."

General (to Colonel): "Luc, show the tape to Captain. (To Willard) Captain, listen carefully."

The colonel left his seat and turned on the tape recorder in the corner of the room.

Voice of the tape: "October 9th at 4:30 am. Peter Becca King area."

Colonel: "It was monitored from Cambodian radio waves. There is no doubt that it is the voice of Colonel Kurz."

The voice of the bass voice came from the tape.

Kurz's voice: "I saw a snail crawling straight over the blade of the razor. It was a dream I had, a nightmare. The snail's body shrank from the sharpened blade of the razor. Climbed slowly, but didn't die...."

Voice of the tape: "Received at 5 am on December 30, 1968. Zlukin area."

Kurz’s voice: "We have to kill them. Burn them to death. Kill the pigs, the cows, all the villages, all the troops. They call me a'murderer'. It's really baffling, can it be murdered? Do criminals have to blame killing? We lie. Liars have to forgive their lies. Those guys are fat-eared. I hate them, I hate them from the bottom of my heart."

The colonel turned off the tape recorder. The general took out several photos of Kurz's youth and handed them to Willard.

General: "Walta Kurz is one of the best military officers in our country. He is very talented and unique in every way. As a person, he can be regarded as an excellent member. He has a fiery heart and wit And humorous. But since he was assigned to work in the special forces, his mind and actions have been in a state of disorder. His actions are often out of the ordinary."

Colonel: "Now, he has crossed the border into Cambodia, leading a legion that treats him as a god and absolutely obeys his orders."

General: "I can tell you an even more shocking news. Kurz has issued an arrest warrant against him for suspected murder."

Willard: "Why is that?"

General: "Colonel Kurz ordered the execution of several Vietnamese intelligence personnel. He made his own judgment and believed that those people were double agents."

General: "Willard, that is to say, there have been all kinds of chaos in this war. Power, ideology, old moral concepts and current combat operations... etc. are all in chaos. Stay with the locals. It is undoubtedly very attractive to be regarded as a god. People’s thoughts often have two completely opposite things in struggle, such as reasonable and unreasonable, good and evil. And good is not necessarily guaranteed to overcome evil. Sometimes evil will defeat what Lincoln said that human beings have an angelic goodness. Anyone has a limit, as do you and I. When Kurz reaches his limit, he is clearly dominated by madness."

Willard (looking at the three of them disturbed): "I understand. It's crazy."

Colonel: "Your mission is to take a naval patrol boat up the Mekong, follow Kurz from Nu Mangba, and collect information about him. Once you find him, you must do everything possible. Infiltrate his legion in order to seize his leadership."

Willard: "Taking the leadership of the colonel?"

General: "His actions simply lack sensible restraint and have no humanity at all. This kind of person is still commanding the army on the front line."

The common people (the first time they speak): "Such people with extreme prejudice should be removed."

Colonel: "Captain, are you clear? This task is not only available now, but also in the future."

Willard mechanically took a cigarette out of a pack of cigarettes handed over by the common people and smoked it. The unexpected task made him feel uneasy, and he showed a shaken expression.

River and jungle (daytime)

A helicopter flew over the jungle, flying over the paddy field.

River (daytime)

Willard got off the plane and, accompanied by another soldier, walked towards the patrol boat parked on the shore.

Willard’s voice: "How many people have I killed in the past? At least six people. They were all killed very close to me, and their last breath hit my cheek. But this time I want to kill. An American, and an officer!..."

River (daytime)

The patrol boat turned around and began to upstream.

Willard’s voice: “The same are all murders, but this time I feel a little different. It’s so stupid. Raising homicides on the battlefield is like running a five-hundred-meter race but limiting the speed. But I’ve already What can I do if I accept the task. I don’t know myself, what should I do when I find him?..."

river. Patrol boat (daytime)

Willard took a nap in the narrow aisle on the patrol boat. It was a small ship, beside Willard, a crew member named Klin brushed his teeth with the river water. The green jungle on both sides of the river is endless.

Willard's voice: "The naval patrol boat I was on looks like a plastic patrol boat. This kind of boat can be seen everywhere on the river, and it is convenient for gathering some intelligence without attracting attention. That's pretty good. I need fresh air and time. There is only one thing I am not satisfied with, and that is that I am not alone on the boat."

Kling: "Good morning, Mr. Captain."

Willard's voice: "The crew are like hungry ghosts. They are decadent youths who are about to die."

Willard: "How old are you?"

Klin: "Seventeen years old."

Stern of patrol boat (daytime)

Cai Fu leaned on the railing and read a pornographic magazine.

Willard's voice: "He is an engineer, nicknamed'Zeff', from New Orleans. He is always so nervous, probably like that in New Orleans."

The young soldier Lance illuminates his face with a sun reflector, trying to get a tan.

Willard’s voice: “Lance, a young man in the 1950s, was a famous surfer on the south coast of Los Angeles. It’s hard to imagine someone like him shooting, even once.”

On the patrol boat deck (daytime)

Willard leaned on the railing beside the ship to read Kurz's archives. Not far from him, Klin was flipping through a comic book. Klin noticed the material in Willard's hand, and he slanted his eyes from time to time to peek.

Willard's voice: "Kling, this Mr. Cleaner (Note 2), was born in the slums of the South Bronx. For this reason, the sun and nature in Vietnam can drive him crazy."

The chief engineer spread a map on the visor and marked it with a pencil.

Willard's voice: "There is another person. The name is Phillips, with a'long' font. The task may fall on me, but everything in this ship is in his hands."

Chief Engineer: “From the depth of the water, there are only two places that can enter the Mekong River. Both places are under the control of the Viet Cong.”

Willard: "Don't worry." (Hands the cigarette)

Chief Engineer: "I don't smoke. I've been to this area several times. Six months ago, I sent a man to Lange Bridge. The kid was an army soldier. Later I heard that he committed suicide by shooting himself in the head."

Patrol boat (daytime)

The patrol boat continued upstream.

Willard looked at Kurz's materials and photos from various periods of the army on the deck. Klin turned on the semiconductor radio to listen to the radio program.

Announcer: "Vietnamese soldiers, good morning. This is AFVN’s Zach Johnson broadcasting. Now the temperature in Saigon is 82 degrees Fahrenheit. Today will be a sultry day.

"First of all, the mayor of Saigon made a request to the American soldiers who live outside the base: in order to maintain the beauty of the Saigon market, please do not hang laundry outside the windows, but dry them in their respective rooms.

"Now we will start broadcasting the on-demand tune. The title of the song is "Confession"."

Kling danced to the beat of the music.

Stern of patrol boat (daytime)

The camera pans backwards from the stern.

Lance used patrol boats instead of small boats to play surfing games.

The high tide rushed to the shore, and the Vietnamese women washing clothes there screamed.

On the patrol boat deck (daytime)

Klin continued to dance to the music of the radio.

Lance playing surfing games

A raft came oncoming and descended down the river. There were two Vietnamese and a bicycle on it.

A huge wave of surfing overturned the raft.

Klin (to the Vietnamese who is struggling desperately in the water): "Goodbye!"

On the patrol boat deck (daytime)

Willard looks at Kurz's materials and photos.

Willard’s voice: "At first I thought they gave me a wrong material. How could such a person kill?!... Grandfather and father both graduated from West Point Military Academy. He also graduated from West Point. , And ranked first. He participated in the Korean War as a member of the paratroopers. He has received dozens of awards.... The sound I heard through the tape made me interested in him, but it is difficult to connect with him. As said, his experience has no shortcomings, and it can even be said: too perfect. This is a figure who can be trained to become a senior military officer such as an admiral and commander-in-chief.

"In 1964, he visited Vietnam as a member of the advisory group. From this time on, he began to deviate from the right track and headed in a suspicious direction. His report to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and President Johnson was put on hold and there was no follow-up. It was because the content of the report angered quite senior officials. Later, he was sent to the paratroopers in Fort Benning, Georgia three times. He is already thirty-eight years old. Why is that?

"In 1966, he was assigned to serve in the special forces. In this way, he once again set foot on the land of Vietnam."

(The screen shows a picture of Kurz and a letter to President Johnson)

Suddenly, the flash of the bomb fell across the sky above the patrol boat.

Cai Fu: "What is this?"

Willard: "Bomb!"

Lance, who used the reflector to illuminate his face, also looked up at the sky.

Willard: "It's a B52 bomb."

Cai Fu: "What is it this time?"

Willard: "The bomb was dropped."

Cai Fu: "It's really annoying. Every time I see this flash, it gives people an ominous omen."

Klin: "The Viet Cong guys didn't wait to hear or see them. A leaf of shrapnel flew to the head and died immediately."

Cai Fu: "We always encounter some unlucky things."

The five crew members all stood on the deck, gazing eagerly at the helicopter flying over the jungle and the white smoke rising everywhere.

Klin: "Smoke! It's a second-class fire alarm."

Chief Engineer: "Look at that helicopter, there are so many."

Willard: "Chief Engineer, hand me the telescope quickly."

What Willard saw (daytime)

The river bank was filled with gunpowder, and two helicopters hovered in the sky.

Patrol boat (daytime)

The patrol boat changed course and sailed to the village by the river, and the crew was ready for battle.

Willard’s voice: “That’s the Air Force Cavalry First Squadron. It’s a unit that protects our ships from entering the Mekong River. It’s good for us to wait for us to arrive 30 meters upstream... But the people of the Air Force Mobile Unit don’t understand. Should wait calmly."

Village by the river (daytime)

Willard and others disembarked and walked ashore. U.S. amphibious trucks began to tear down wooden houses on the shore. The soldiers of the cavalry ran around in the smoke of gunpowder.

Willard’s voice: “The First Squadron of Air Force Cavalry is a veritable cavalry unit. It loads horses into helicopters and is now raging in Vietnam. It is particularly good at making surprise attacks. It has done it several times in the past. The Viet Cong was frightened. This time it seems that I want to play this hand again."

Village on the shore (daytime)

Willard and the gang walked into the village where the fighting was going on. Gunshots, bomb explosions, gun smoke billowing.

Television director: "Don't look at the camera, run. I'm shooting TV now, run! Don't look at the camera! Make a fighting posture!"

Willard heard the voice and glanced back. It turned out that the TV station used a portable camera to broadcast the live battle. The director gestured for Willard to walk away, and Willard was taken aback, staring blankly at the photographer holding the camera.

The flamethrower burned down the houses in the village.

The helicopter of the medical team is carrying the wounded.

The village was full of shouts and chaos.

Willard (grabbing a soldier and yelling in his ear): "Where is the commander?"

Soldier: "Over there, you can see it when you go."

The village. Kigol and his men (daytime)

Lieutenant Colonel Kigol commanded the battle fearlessly in the smoke. Willard ran forward to salute and handed him the instructions.

The explosion made Willard have to raise his voice in order for the other party to hear it.

Willard: "I am Captain Willard. I have brought special instructions from the Second Brigade of the Intelligence Department. About my mission, Nha Trang has probably contacted you."

Kigol: "What mission? I haven't received any contact from Nha Trang."

Willard. "Please escort us to the Mekong."

Kigol: "It's not a problem to help you, but please don't bother me until I clean up this place."

Kigol didn't even look at the instructions sent by Willard and handed them over to the major next to him.

A second lieutenant brought Kigol a set of playing cards. As Kigol opened the cover of the playing cards, he walked towards the tired corpse of the Vietnamese who fell on the ground, and then threw the cards one by one on the corpse.

Kigol: "Okay, let's see what's going on today. Spades 2. Spades 3. Diamonds 4. Clubs 6. Spades 8... There is no one worthy of Jake."

Willard picked up a card that was dropped on the ground. Turning it over, the surface of the card has the pattern of the cavalry team badge. Lance, who followed, leaned forward to look.

Lance: "What is it? Mr. Captain."

Willard: "The card of death."

Lance: "Huh?"

Willard: "The card of death. Let the Viet Cong know who killed them."

Kigol stuffed the card into the dead man's hand. The photographer at the newspaper immediately photographed it.

Kigol left the dead body and led a group of his men to the village where there were ruined walls everywhere. The women and children there fled, Kigol helped them to escape by pushing a cart. He dodges the bomb agilely, seems to be accustomed to the chaos, and is full of confidence.

The sound of bombs, the noise of helicopters, the shouts of the people in the village. Amidst this noise, a broadcast in English and translated into Vietnamese came from the tweeter.

The voice of the broadcaster: "My fellow villagers! We will not harm you. We will extend a warm helping hand to you who wish to return to the embrace of the South Vietnamese government. This area is within the sphere of influence of the Viet Cong and North Vietnam. We are determined. It won't hurt you..."

Three soldiers gathered around a Viet Cong who was wounded in the abdomen. There is a washbasin over his wound. Seeing this scene, Kigol swaggered forward.

Kigol: "Hey, what's the matter?"

Soldier: "He was seriously injured. Cover the wound with a washbasin to prevent the intestines from leaking out."

Kigol: "Did he say anything?"

South Vietnamese soldier: "It's the Viet Cong. He said he wants to drink water. Isn't it enough to give him some water from the puddle?"

Kigol (to the South Vietnamese soldier): "Go away! (to the subordinate) Bring the kettle."

Kigol took the thermos that his subordinates brought, squatted beside the injured Viet Cong, and fed him water.

South Vietnamese soldier: "He is the Viet Cong! The despicable Viet Cong! Killed many of our compatriots!"

Kigol (pushing away the South Vietnamese soldiers): "Damn it! Go away and go away! Fighting until the intestines bleed out, such a brave soldier, I am willing to give him my water!"

American soldier: "Mr. Lieutenant Colonel. That sailor is called Lance Johnson. It's surfing..."

Kigol (stands up from the side of the Viet Cong): "Really? Where is it?"

The soldier pointed to Lance, who was standing beside Willard.

Kigol: "Is that right?"

As he walked to Lance, Lance bowed nervously.

Kigol: "What's your name?"

Lance: "Artillery Third Class L Johnson."

Klin, who was standing next to him, also wanted to report that "Artillery Third Class...", but Kigol was not interested in him.

Kigol (to Lance): "Are you the surfer Lance Johnson?"

Lance: "Yes."

Kigol. "It's nice to see you, Lance. Your surfing posture is beautiful. The sharp turns are even more unusual. At this point, no one can surpass you."

Lance: "Thank you for your compliment, Mr. Lieutenant Colonel."

Kigol: "Don't call me Mr. Lieutenant Colonel. Lance, my name is Bill Kigol. I still have some confidence in surfing. (referring to Willard) Are you together?"

Lance (relaxedly): "Yes."

Kigol (introducing subordinates): "Let me introduce him. He is Mike from San Diego."

Mike (shaking hands): "Hello."

Kigol: "This is Jonny from Malibu. Surfing skills are also good, but I can't catch up with you. However, surfing is also popular here. Usually, I always end early and fly to Bandan in the evening to do surfing. Games. Where do you surf? Do you often come here to surf?"

Lance: "No, I haven't been here once."

Kigol: "How about? May I let you play once?"

Village (daytime)

A goat suspended in the air by a helicopter.

Graveyard in the village (daytime)

The priest with the army stood in front of a simple altar set up in the cemetery, chanting prayers. A group of American soldiers knelt around and prayed to God.

Father: "My lord God. The noble Holy Spirit is the source of all things good and beautiful..."

The scene of hoisting livestock on a helicopter and transporting them to safety. The attack has ended victoriously.

Tent by the river (night)

The soldiers happily had a picnic on the shore camping ground. The lamb was roasting on the raging flames, making a squeaky sound, and everyone was drinking cold canned beer.

The men sat in a circle while Kigol played the guitar. Lance was sitting next to him, and Willard and Klin were sitting not far from him.

Willard’s voice: "Kigor is very satisfied with the results of today’s day. With both grilled lamb chops and beer, this seaside dinner is very rich. However, the stronger the flavor of the hometown, the more everyone will be homesick."

Kigol: "My barbecue should be tender, not too hot. The wine should not be too cold. (Kigol sings while playing the guitar) Love me... Love each other forever..."

Willard’s voice: "He is indeed not bad as an officer. Being considerate of his subordinates and working next to him will give him a sense of ownership. Sometimes there is such a person in the army. Power’s dominates, and he is such a person. No matter what happens, he is the only one who can not be hurt at all."

Kigol (noting Willard drinking beer alone): "Captain, how about your mission. The people in Nha Trang have forgotten you."

The soldiers around burst into laughter.

Willard stood up with a map and walked to Kigol.

Willard: "There are two places to enter the river, here, and here."

Kigol, who had a guitar in his hand, didn't seem interested in it, and agreed casually.

Willard: "It's a big delta, and there are only two real locations."

Kigol: "The village you are referring to is unreliable, Willard."

Willard: "What does it mean to be unreliable?"

Kigol: "I mean danger. The security is tight there. In the past, several of our reconnaissance boats were destroyed there. (To the subordinate standing next to him) What is the name of the village? It's called Ping Chiduo Pu, or Rope? Damn it! They are all similar place names. Hey, Mike, what place is this Pinzhi Dorp?"

Mike: "There are very good mountains."

Kigol: "Mountain?"

Mike: "Yes. It's six feet tall. There are waves on both sides. It's like a mortar, a big mallet..."

Kigol (excitedly): "Why didn't you say it earlier! Oh, there are mountains, there are mountains in such a country, I didn't expect it!"

Mike: "But, it's dangerous. MacDonald was killed there. He was shot as soon as he got there. That was the stronghold of the Viet Cong."

Willard: "How about going at dawn tomorrow? The early wind direction is good for us...."

Chief Engineer: "Is this boat going? The water in the estuary may be too shallow."

Kigol: "Don't worry. You can hoist your ship and land where you want to land. Don't think about it, we are the First Air Cavalry. Whether it is a Viet Cong stronghold, or whatever. The place is good, I can get you where you want to go. That’s great. There is a six-foot-high mountain. (Standing up suddenly) Lance, you go with Mike to choose the boat. Don’t forget Got my boat. 8.6'Eta Spoon'."

Mike: "But, Mr. Lieutenant Colonel..."

Kigol: "What?"

Mike: "It's dangerous there, it's the stronghold of the Viet Cong..."

Kigol: "Does the Viet Cong also surf?"

Helicopter base (daytime)

Several helicopters are ready for departure. Kigol was at the forefront, and then his troops, as well as Willard and the five of them, entered the plane one after another. There is a plane carrying a boat for surfing.

Helicopter with Cai Fu and others (daytime)

Cai Fu: "Hey, look!"

A helicopter is hoisting their patrol boat into the air with a rope.

Kigol's helicopter (daytime)

Kigol wore a helmet-shaped hat and a white scarf. Willard and Lance sat on the same plane with him.

Kigol (the gunner to the plane): "What's your mood? Kimi."

Soldier: "My hands are itchy."

Kigol: "Okay, let's get started."

At Kigol's suggestion, the trumpeter blew the assault horn loudly. That was the melody of the assault horn of the cavalry that galloped in the Westfall.

Helicopter base (daytime)

The helicopter began to take off.

Jungle (daytime)

A round of red sun rose from the horizon, and helicopter after helicopter appeared from the distance of the coconut grove. It is like a huge penguin flying in the beautiful sky.

Kigol's helicopter (daytime)

Kigol (to Lance sitting in the seat next door): "The boat is too light to use. I'm used to using heavier ones."

Lance: "I understand."

Kigol: "Do you use heavy or light ones?"

Lance: "Use the heavy one."

Kigol: "Really? Wouldn't a young person like you be better able to break through the waves with light?"

The voice of the radio: "Duke 6, this is Eagle 7. The target was found."

Kigol: "From Duke 6 to Eagle 7. Direction 2-7-10. Start attacking!"

The voice of the radio: "Understood! Start attacking!"

Kigol: "Lance."

Lance: "Yes."

Kigol: "Assault from low altitude with the rising sun behind, and fly to a place a mile away and play music."

Lance: "Do you play music?"

Kigol. "Yes. Play Wagner's tune. It's interesting to make those guys tremble with fright."

Lance (to Willard sitting behind): "Have you heard? Let the music play."

Helicopter of Cai Fu and others (daytime)

Cai Fu talked to the soldier sitting next to him.

Cai Fu: "Hey, why are you sitting on the helmet?"

Soldier: "I'm afraid the'chicken' will fly away!"

Cai Fu laughed, took off his helmet and sat under his hips.

Kigol's helicopter (daytime)

Kigol: "From the Duke to the Eagle. The music begins! Make the voice louder!"

Another helicopter (daytime)

The flight attendant turned on the tape of the tape recorder.

Kigol: "This is foxtrot. Now is the time to dance!"

Soldier's voice: "I know!"

Helicopters flying in formation in the sky (daytime)

Wagner's dance music resounded through the loudspeaker. Helicopters in formation. The flight attendant was loaded with bullets, ready to attack.

village. Overlook (daytime)

Two or three women are sitting in the village square selling goods. The teacher took a group of elementary school students out of the school building and came to the square. Hear Wagner's music from afar. The North Vietnamese soldiers gesticulated the pupils to hide in the school building.

Helicopters flying in formation (daytime)

The deafening sound of Wagner's music.

Village (daytime)

Women and children evading in a hurry, villagers with weapons in hand.

Attacking flying team (daytime)

The helicopter lowered its altitude and kept attacking the village. The pouring down of rockets and machine guns. The building was blown up, causing a fire, and thick smoke billowing. The villagers ran around and some were shot dead.

Kigol: "What do you think it is? It's a wave. How is it? Look, the wave rising from the left and right sides is six feet high! Okay, let's land!"

Beach (daytime)

Kigol’s helicopter and another helicopter landed on the beach by the village, and the sea was rough.

Kigol got off the plane and ran directly to the water. No matter how the landmine exploded under his feet, he remained calm and his face didn't change. The subordinates had no choice but to follow closely behind.

Major: "It's still dangerous here. If you want to surf, go elsewhere."

Kigol: "You know what surfing is, Major. You bunny from New Jersey!"

The bomb fell in the water, constantly rushing into the water column.

Kigol (to the soldier): "It's nice here. Okay, let's change clothes."

Soldier: "Is it here?"

Kigol: "Go and see how the waves are."

Soldier: "But, there is still..."

Kigol: "Why, don't you want it?"

Soldier: "I'll go, I'll go."

Kigol: "That's right. If you don't surf, I'll let you take the gun. Understand? Come on, let's start. (To the soldier with the gun) You serve as an ambulance! And, prepare for Lance ferry!"

Willard: "If you don't have a boat, you can't get away even if you want to run."

Kigol: "How about it, Lance. It's amazing!"

Lance: "Yes."

Kigol: "The wave splits into left and right. The two set off from the left and the right at the same time!"

Lance: "But, I think it's better to wait for the tide."

Kigol: "Really nonsense. There are still six hours to wait for the full tide. Are you going to wait six hours here?"

Several soldiers accepted the order and set off. They leaned on the boat and rushed to the smoke-filled water.

Beach (daytime)

The patrol boat hung high on the helicopter. The plane crossed the delta and accurately dropped the patrol boat from the sky, just on the opposite wide channel.

Seeing this scene, Kerin and the chief engineer could not help cheering.

Beach (daytime)

With the cannonball flying horizontally, the two soldiers tried surfing, but they were unsuccessful.

Kigol (yelling with a megaphone): "What's the matter? Why shrunk your hands! Get your spirits up!"

Willard: "Mr. Colonel, it's still a bit dangerous?!"

Kigol: "I want to say that this beach is safe, that is safe! I don't care. Look at me, rush to show you!"

Kigol opened his bow tie angrily and took off his shirt. Resolutely decided to have a surf.

Kigol (to the soldier): "Give me the radio. (To the radio) Pigeon 4. This is Duke 6. Clear all the coconut groves along the beach."

Radio voice: "Duke 6. Understand."

Kigol: "Let the jungle go back to the Stone Age!"

Sky (daytime)

A group of ghost jet fighters appeared in the clear sky.

They arranged in a beautiful formation and revolved in the sky, and the target of the bombing was that piece of Conglin. Dialogue between the pilots.

Voice of the pilot: "Use napalm bombs to burn down the jungle along the beach, and escape immediately after dropping the bomb."

The voice of the pilot: "Understood. What is the goal?"

Voice of the pilot: "The target is a mortar hidden in the jungle."

Beach (daytime)

Willard, Lance and others pressed the helmet-shaped hat with their hands and hid in a shallow trench. The shirtless Kigol looked up at the sky fearlessly.

Kigol: "Wait a minute. Clean up there soon and make it a safe zone. Don't be afraid."

Sky (daytime)

A whole team of ghost jet fighters began to attack the jungle.

Jungle (daytime)

As soon as the Phantom fighter flew through the jungle, an explosion occurred below. An orange-red flame blasted straight into the sky, and the atmosphere was full of black smoke.

Beach (daytime)

Willard looked at the jungle burning in the billowing black smoke in a daze.

Kigol: "It's this smell. It's this smell."

Lance: "What smell?"

Kigol: "The scent of napalm. It’s not smelt anywhere else. It’s nice to smell it in the morning. I don’t remember when it was. One hill was bombed twelve in a row. When I was young, I went up and took a look after the bombing. There was no corpse. What was left there was the smell of gasoline. But this war will end one day...."

The stray bullets flying from nowhere exploded around, but Kigol remained undaunted and strode forward with his chest straight. Willard stared at him dumbfounded, and couldn't help showing an expression of admiration.

Patrol boat leaving the beach (daytime)

On the patrol boat deck (daytime)

The crew panicked one by one. Cai Shi rolled the marijuana leaf.

Klin: "Pick it, Zef. Why don't you light it and smoke?"

Willard’s voice: "This war will end one day. The people on this ship will be very happy. They want to go back to their motherland most. However, I once went back once, and I know that our motherland is dying. ......."

The unscrupulous young crew members laughed, and they took turns smoking marijuana leaves.

Willard left them, drinking and reading by himself.

Willard's voice: "Since there are people on the battlefield doing things like Kigol, why should I blame Kurz. If it's because of crazy killing, then, is there less of it here?"

River (evening)

The patrol boat drove along the upper reaches of the river.

By the river (evening)

The patrol boat stopped in the dense woods on the shore. Lance washed the swimming trunks in the bucket. Klin is repairing the M60.

Cai Fu: "Think of meeting Lakée Wilkie when picking mangoes in the jungle. You can make a creamy dessert with mangoes, and you can spread them on each other.... Captain, don't you go picking mangoes?"

Willard: "You can pick it, but don't go alone. The jungle here is very dangerous."

Lance: "Are there poisonous snakes?"

Cai Fu: "It doesn't matter. I'll pick it."

Willard, who was sitting there smoking, picked up the bucket and rifle and stood up.

Jungle (evening)

Willard and Zeff walked into the dense jungle.

Willard: "Zeff."

Cai Fu: "Ah."

Willard: "Why do everyone call you that way?"

Cai Fu: "What do you call me?"

Willard: "Call you Zeff. Is it because you like mangoes and the like?"

Cai Fu: "No. It's because I'm a real chef. It's the seasoning..."

Willard: "Seasoning?"

Cai Fu: "Yes. I was born in New Orleans, and I have a certain degree of research on seasonings. I intend to become a first-rate condimenter...."

Willard: "What is a'spice maker'?"

Zef: "It's a chef who specializes in seasoning. It should be almost where there is a mango tree.... I was going to go to Paris Esco Fei Culinary School for advanced studies, but at this time I received the notice of enlistment. The reason why I wanted to be The navy, that’s because I heard that the navy’s food is good.... I regret that I shouldn’t know how to cook."

Willard: "Oh, why then?"

The two were walking in the jungle looking for mangoes. Zeif was standing there urinating, Willard was sitting on a tree trunk that fell to the ground.

Cai Fu: "Do you really want to hear it? I went to the kitchen and saw a lot of the best ribs. It's the highest level of meat. But how do those guys handle the meat? They take all the meat. Pour into the cauldron. Looking at it again, the meat in the pot turned gray. It really made you laugh or cry. That's why I wanted to transfer to the communications team, but in the end it was transferred to the mechanical aspect...."

At this time, there was a loud noise in the nearby dense forest. Willard and Zef immediately shook hands with their weapons.

Cai Fu: "What is that sound? Is it the enemy?"

The two moved forward quietly with light footsteps. The mood is abnormal.

Suddenly a tiger jumped out of the dense forest in front of him, and rushed towards Willard. The two screamed in fright and hurriedly escaped.

Cai Fu: "Tiger!"

Willard: "Run!"

The two ran blindly in the jungle.

Patrol boat (evening)

There was a gunshot in the jungle. The three left-behind team members were immediately alert to Chaolai.

Chief Engineer: "Everywhere! Lance step forward! Klin, pick up the M6O."

Jungle (evening)

Willard and Zeff ran.

Cai Fu: "Tiger! The tiger is out!"

Patrol boat (evening)

Willard and Zef ran out of the jungle and jumped onto the boat.

Klin: "What happened?"

Cai Fu: "Tiger!"

The patrol boat sailed from the dense forest to the river.

Cai Fu: "Mr. Captain is right. Disembarking is very dangerous."

Chief Engineer (I don't know what happened): "What's the matter? How many enemies are there?"

Cai Fu: "Tiger. Damn it!"

Klin: "What did you say?"

Cai Fu: "It's a tiger."

Chief Engineer: "Tiger?"

Zefu was frightened and excited, he threw away his shirt and yelled.

Cai Fu: "Fuck! I can't stand it. Let me get out of the boat! I will never come to this kind of ghost place again. Pull me from school and bring me to such a broken place! I have learned to cook. , Let me be a chef!"

Lance (watching coldly): "Be calm. It's okay."

Cai Fu: "Are you really doing anything, thank goodness! I won't do it on the boat anymore! If you ask me to do it again, I have to refuse. Goodbye, tiger! Ghost, goodbye!"

Willard's voice: "The sentence'It is dangerous to disembark' seems to be correct. Disembarking does require mental preparation. After getting off the ship, Kurz took an unimaginable path. Why is that? ?......"

Willard's Cabin (Night)

Willard flashed a flashlight to read Kurz's archives.

Willard’s voice: “He saw something. Ah, he’s thirty-eight years old. He has joined the special forces. The more I understand his situation, the more I sympathize with him in my heart. But, His family and friends did not understand him, and always wanted to change his determination. But he did not agree. He had proposed a transfer job three times, but was not accepted. In the end, he had to apply to leave the army and that was the solution. There was a young man in the army who was only half his age to replace him. The soldiers in the same class thought it was an energetic old man. I also received special training when I was nineteen, but I almost never got him. Killed. He was a strong man and had undergone that kind of training. If he wanted to, he could become a general in the future. However, he still chose his own path."

Following the commentary, a close-up shot of Kurz’s request for transfer and a photo of his wife appeared on the screen.

On the patrol boat deck (night)

Cai Fu was writing a letter from home, Klin was singing, and the chief engineer was lying there sleeping soundly.

Cai Fu (while writing the letter): "Dear Eve: A big event happened today. I met a tiger and it was almost never eaten. It's hard to believe! We are with a captain named Willard , Upstream, I don’t know where to go. Is there a letter from Al Ford?..."

River (night)

The patrol boat sailed upstream in the moonlight.

Willard's Cabin (Night)

Willard read the news about Kurz cut from the New York Weekly.

Willard’s voice: “In October 1967, he performed special missions in the Ganzhaimai area. Kurz assembled the local army for combat and achieved great results. However, he did not get the approval of the headquarters and was unauthorized. The decision was made with courage. The headquarters was very annoyed by this, but when his achievements were known to the press, the guys quickly promoted him to colonel. This place in Vietnam is like a growing number of people. Junkyard, if you don’t have wings, it’s hard to get out of there.

On the patrol boat deck (night)

The light shining from the front of the ship awakened the chief engineer who was sleeping. On the dark side of the water, lights of various colors shone, just like those lights that adorned the carnival. The others also woke up, staring attentively.

Klin: "Oh, what is that? There will be..."

Willard also walked out of the cabin.

Chief Engineer: "Is it the enemy?"

Willard: "Who knows?"

The ship approached in the direction of the light. On a closer look, a brightly lit stage appeared on the shore, and many people were rushing on the stage.

Cai Fu: "I didn't expect it!"

Warehouse on the shore (night)

A street sign was erected on the side of the road, which read "Ho Fart".

All kinds of materials are piled up like a mountain, and there is a messy warehouse zone. Willard, who got off the boat, hurriedly passed through the noisy crowd.

Klin: "Ah, it's Howard. Have you been here before, Zef? (At first glance at the motorcycle parked in front of you) Hey, it's a motorcycle. That's a bass."

Cai Fu: "Very famous."

Klin: "I know, there is also sukiyaki."

A sergeant sorted the supplies in front of the warehouse.

Klin: "Please help. (To Sergeant) We need three barrels of diesel for IPBR5...."

Sergeant (urging his subordinates to step up their work): "Hurry up. There is only one hour left. (To Klin) What's the matter?"

Zefu: "We need diesel and'Panama Red' (Note 3)..."

Sergeant: "Panama Red! OK. Where is your destination?"

Klin: "There is no destination."

Sergeant: "What? There is no destination? No fuel is given without a destination. Please forgive me."

Willard. "Sergeant, he is with us. The destination is to be kept secret. We have a certificate issued by the Ministry of Intelligence."

Sergeant. "Okay, I understand. Tonight is boring. (To the subordinates) Be careful: Don't break the camera!"

Willard got angry and grabbed the collar of the sergeant's clothes.

Willard: "Hey, get the oil out!"

Sergeant: "I know. I'm sorry, Mr. Captain, let's do it tonight. (Tear off the subpoena and hand it to Willard) Give this to the man in the material team and collect the oil there. (To Willard who is going away Germany and his party) Wait a minute, don’t you watch the show? There are still seats in the press booth. Go ahead."

Klin: "Okay."

Cai Fu: "The show?"

Sergeant: "Yes, acting. It's a rabbit dance."

Lance: "Is the actor playing the rabbit?"

Sergeant: "Yes."

Zeif: "Is Bob Hope coming too?"

Sergeant (puts a bottle of brandy to Willard): "You take it, Mr. Captain. I have a treat as an apology to you."

Stage (night)

A brightly lit round stage. There is a colossus of an actor in the middle. Several helicopters were flying above. Thousands of soldiers surrounded the stage. The helicopter carrying the dancing girl landed on the stage. The strange screams and whistles of the soldiers were a mess. After the door was opened, the host first walked onto the stage.

Moderator: "Hello everyone, we have come here from afar to express our condolences to you. The officers and soldiers of the Air Force, the officers and soldiers of the Navy, you have been serving here for days and days, and you have worked hard. Please enjoy the show tonight! "

Willard squeezed past the crowd and sat down in front of the stage.

Host: "Now let me introduce you: Sandra Beatty in Mies in August, Dieli Trey in Mies in May. And Carrie Faust, the queen of the show world this year!"

The helicopter was guarded by heavily armed military police, and three semi-naked beauties stepped off the plane. Started to dance on the stage. Screams and whistles came one after another. They twisted their waists to make a provocative dance posture to the beat of the music. The soldiers couldn't restrain their excitement, they yelled in a mess, and their mouths were not clean.

Some local Vietnamese, sticking their faces to the upright wire fence behind the seats, watched this faction with their eyes wide open.

The dancers who showed off their hue suddenly twisted their waists, and then blew kisses to the audience, just like the men. The soldiers got up from their seats and stomped heavily on the ground, making a noise.

The soldier sitting in the front row was so excited that he couldn't restrain himself, so he stepped over the railing and rushed to the stage. Although the gendarmerie wanted to stop it; but it had no effect. The soldiers had already surrounded the dancing girls and asked them to sign.

The host announced the cessation of the performance and was going to let the girls hide in the helicopter, but more and more soldiers came to the stage, and they couldn't clean up. In the end, smoke bombs were thrown. In the chaos, the host and the military police finally pulled the dancers into the plane.

The helicopter rose from the stage packed with soldiers, and three soldiers were hanging from the foot of the plane. The slowly rising plane. One soldier who was hanging in the air fell down, and the other soldier grabbed the trousers of the man above. In a moment, the pants fell off, and the two fell from the air into the river on the side of the stage, splashing waves.

Willard sitting aside, holding a wine bottle in his hand, as if he had just woke up, watching the chaotic state of the scene.

Willard’s voice: “Viet Cong soldiers can’t be comforted like this. They either go underground or move in the jungle. They can eat white rice and rat meat. That’s the best way to improve their lives.”

Stage (daytime)

The next day, the patrol boat left Hoffat.

The naked soldiers demolished the stage there.

Willard’s voice: “There are only two futures for the Viet Cong: death or victory. Kurz makes those big men headaches, and that makes sense. This war is becoming a four-star harlequin. acrobatics show.

Patrol grip deck (daytime)

Crew members spending time on the deck.

Cai Fu: "It's really hard to believe."

Klin: "What?"

Zefu: "I really want to meet Miss Mies here in December."

The boys noticed another patrol boat descending upstream, and everyone immediately stood up.

Klin: "Ho, now is the time for the'challenge game'."

When the two boats met on a narrow channel, the two sides continued to move forward at the original speed, depending on who could avoid each other at the last moment. The soldiers called this a "challenge game."

There is also a patrol boat rushing at full power. The soldiers on the opposing ship were clamoring on the deck. The chief engineer held the rudder calmly and boldly.

The two oncoming patrol boats are about to collide. It was the opponent's patrol boat that turned the bow at this critical juncture. As soon as the ship staggered, the soldiers on the other ship shaved their faces with their fingers, and some even took off their trousers to expose their hips in order to mock the other party.

One of them threw a smoke bomb.

The smoke bomb fell on the sun-shielding canopy on Willard's boat, and the canopy began to burn. Lance and others hurriedly shouted: "Grenade!" When they knew it was a smoke bomb, they immediately put out the fire in the tent with a fire extinguisher.

On the patrol boat deck (daytime)

The "challenge game" is over, Lance and the others are repairing the awning.

Willard is still reading Kurz's archives.

Willard’s voice: “At the turn of the summer and autumn of 1968, Kurz’s patrol was repeatedly attacked in the mountainous area and suffered heavy losses. In November, Kurz instructed to assassinate four Vietnamese, including three men. The first name, one female. Two of the males are colonels from South Vietnam. Soon, in the area controlled by Kurz, the enemy's activities are no longer seen. Undoubtedly, the situation he has is correct. These four people have already Be wiped out."

Saigon’s headquarters (recollection)

The shot of the general and colonel giving orders to Willard flashed back.

General: "His actions have gone out of the ordinary...."

Colonel: "He crossed the border into Cambodia and led a legion that treated him like a god and absolutely obeyed orders..."

Willard's voice: "The headquarters finally decided to transfer Kurz back. If he promises to come back then, everything will be written

War temporarily loosens people from the shackles of social rules, morals and dogma, and various dark desires have also expanded infinitely and cannot be dealt with. When humans with wisdom are stimulated with the most primitive instincts, the heart of darkness is irreversible.

Apocalypse Now quotes

  • [first lines]

Willard: Saigon... shit; I'm still only in Saigon... Every time I think I'm gonna wake up back in the jungle.

Willard: When I was home after my first tour, it was worse.

    [grabs at flying insect]

Willard: I'd wake up and there'd be nothing. I hardly said a word to my wife, until I said "yes" to a divorce. When I was here, I wanted to be there; when I was there, all I could think of was getting back into the jungle. I'm here a week now... waiting for a mission... getting softer. Every minute I stay in this room, I get weaker, and every minute Charlie squats in the bush, he gets stronger. Each time I looked around the walls moved in a little tighter.

  • Kurtz: I've seen horrors... horrors that you've seen. But you have no right to call me a murderer. You have a right to kill me. You have a right to do that... but you have no right to judge me. It's impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what horror means. Horror... Horror has a face... and you must make a friend of horror. Horror and moral terror are your friends. If they are not, then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies! I remember when I was with Special Forces... seems a thousand centuries ago. We went into a camp to inoculate some children. We left the camp after we had inoculated the children for polio, and this old man came running after us and he was crying. He couldn't see. We went back there, and they had come and hacked off every inoculated arm. There they were in a pile. A pile of little arms. And I remember... I... I... I cried, I wept like some grandmother. I wanted to tear my teeth out; I didn't know what I wanted to do! And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it... I never want to forget. And then I realized... like I was shot... like I was shot with a diamond... a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought, my God... the genius of that! The genius! The will to do that! Perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they were stronger than we, because they could stand that these were not monsters, these were men... trained cadres. These men who fought with their hearts, who had families, who had children, who were filled with love... but they had the strength... the strength... to do that. If I had ten divisions of those men, our troubles here would be over very quickly. You have to have men who are moral... and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling... without passion... without judgment... without judgment! Because it's judgment that defeats us.
