When you see a person standing on the edge of a cliff, don't stretch out your hand to him rashly. Because you think you are a helping hand to bring him back to safety, but it is likely to become the last help to push him off the cliff. From this point of view, Lopez is lucky. Just when he was about to drive Nathaniel mad, it did not lead to tragedy in the end.

I have never loved anything like Nathaniel loves music.

Nathaniel is a very gifted music player. Although the cello was the first instrument he chose as a child, when Lopez met him for the first time, he played a violin with only two strings left. Nathaniel can do more than these two things. He can even use his tattered trolley as a drum kit and play a beautiful melody.

Nathaniel was admitted to the Juilliard School of Music, the first hall of music, and became the pride of his family. But from the second year on, he had auditory hallucinations, and several voices in his head kept slandering him and eroding his confidence. This left him nowhere to escape, and eventually dropped out of school and became a tramp. But all this did not stop his love of music. He was listening on the streets of New York, playing with a broken violin he didn't know where he got, and he was selflessly offsetting the noise in the streets of the city where Beethoven was the leader. He believes that the outdoor environment close to nature is the best place to play and enjoy music.

Music has always been all his life, everything he has. For music, he repeatedly compromised Lopez's requirements. In order to play the cello, I forced myself to go to the nasty neighborhood; in order to listen to the performance, I forced myself to leave the trolley temporarily; in order to continue to learn the piano, I forced myself to step into the terrible apartment again. He loves music for this reason. Not only Lopez, but probably most people, including me, must sigh that we have never loved anything like Nathaniel loves music.

I don’t want him to love me. From my limited experience, he loves you and you let him down. In the end, you part ways. Even your friends don’t

seem to be a lunatic tramp. Lopez has always been since he found out. Helping him, I hope he can continue his musical journey. But in fact, behind Lopez's eager and anxious behavior is his own confusion and helplessness. It is the presence and music of Nathaniel who are helping him.

I guess Lopez was vaguely aware of this. So when Nathaniel told him, "You are our God, I love you" he panicked. His panic was not so much caused by Nathaniel's attitude towards him, but rather it was caused by the incident that evoked painful memories of his past. This can be seen from the dialogue between him and the community therapist.

He hurried to find a therapist, and wanted to force Nathaniel to mentally heal him. He said that from his limited experience, people love you and then you let them down. In the end, the love that you separated disappeared, and each other was in pain. This is probably talking about him and his ex-wife. Although it is not explained in the movie what caused them to separate, it is certainly not a good memory. I can see that they are still in love, but the disappointment they once made them can't be together anymore.

Don't let yourself descend into other people's lives like a god, just be an ordinary friend and show up

as a bit of dislike for Lopez. His motive for approaching Nathaniel was simple, but he wanted to find a subject for his column. Nathaniel was simply the best story he could find at the time. So not only did he approach Nathaniel, he also offered a lot of help or intervention. In my opinion, the initial purpose is likely to be able to continue to write down this story. He has been helping Nathaniel in the way he thinks is good for him, but what I see is that he has repeatedly forced Nathaniel to bring a lot of pain to Nathaniel.

Nathaniel considered him a friend, and even regarded him as a god. Once Nathaniel pushed a trolley to play drums downstairs in his company, but the first word he got down was to drive him away, telling him that he could not stay here. Nathaniel couldn't hide the disappointed expression on his face, and he muttered to himself, "Don't stand in the way, when Mr. Lopez is going to work. Yes, everyone has to work, don't stand in the way." The friendship he thought was just a tool used by the other party for profit. Fortunately, he didn't realize it or didn't think so.

Lopez was the culmination of his disgust when he found the therapist who wanted to force Nathaniel to psychotherapy. He really regarded himself as the God of Nathaniel, forgetting that they were equal. His "normal mind" cannot be the right to force Nathaniel to do anything, and Nathaniel's "schizophrenia" should not be an excuse for him to intervene at will. The advice given by the therapist was very good. He pointed out Lopez's problem sharply, "Nathaniel needs a friend. You are his friend, listening to him and staying with him is the best help for him." . Yes, don't think you are superior, we are all the same, no one understands more than anyone else. What others need is a friend who can accompany rather than a God who gives orders.

A little thought caused by PS slums. People were hopeful when the mayor announced the financial agreement to allocate funds to help slum reorganization. However, the money is not used to help people in the slums get a better life, but to organize the police to arrest and drive the residents of the slums. This is not only embarrassing. Sometimes the so-called help is actually depriving others of their last habitat and light of hope.
