Failed salvation

The most confusing movie I saw during the Shanghai International Film Festival. It's not that professional audiences just think it's not amazing in all aspects, it's a forced film that was made for the sake of winning the prize.
My personal understanding of the story is that a prisoner who was sent to work in a concentration camp was on the verge of collapse in his spirit and beliefs during his four-month life in the concentration camp. After seeing the child who survived in the gas chamber, he was still executed by the Nazis. Consciousness of yourself After all, he couldn't escape the death penalty, so he was eager to find the story of the rabbi for the children and the sustenance of the spirit and faith for himself. So the protagonist from start to finish doesn't care about the uprisings of his companions, the lives of others, and other Jewish victims except the rabbi. He himself has been crazy. It was a movie that couldn't agree with the protagonist's values. In the end, his persistence did not help him find the true rabbi. It only accelerated the death of his companions and can only hope for others or the afterlife.
The film is depressed as a whole. In terms of shooting techniques, there are a lot of shallow focus and dizziness when you follow the shooting. Many reviews say that the background and background dialogue are good, but the film festival has no translation at all, ha ha! It's just a film that gathers the shooting techniques of World War II, the Nazis, and Swordsmanship to summon awards, and the ending is not understood, bad reviews! ?

    Looks too depressing

  • Chadd 2021-12-27 08:01:42

Don't go to the theater alone. As expected, the experience of watching movies is very uncomfortable as described in the media. It makes my chest tight and depressing. The semi-first-person perspective and the processing of the virtual focus of the perspective not only allow people to follow the male lead to see all kinds of cruelty in the camp, but also not to be frightened by the too bloody perspective. Towards the end of the movie, I hate the male lead, but after the end, I understand that there are some greater things worthy of redemption.

Son of Saul quotes

  • Saul Ausländer: Rabbi, Help me bury a body.

  • Abraham Warszawski: Who's this boy?

    Saul Ausländer: My son.

Abraham Warszawski: But you have no son.

Saul Ausländer: I do. I have to bury him.

Abraham Warszawski: You don't need a rabbi for that.

Saul Ausländer: At least he'll do what's right.
