The Metaphor of Life in "Big Fish"

"Big Fish" is a very special fantasy film because it tells you the truth: those fantasy experiences are all real with illusions. What makes me curious is, why on earth would Dad describe the past like that? In the final analysis, the problem is actually-why does the screenwriter set the fantasy story in the narrative into those contents?
This movie is full of metaphors for different stages of life. Since birth, Edward has regarded himself as a special person. He slipped to the ground, traversing through layers of danger without being injured, like the birthing process of a new life? When he was a child, he and his friends went on an expedition. He bravely asked the witch to explore what death (declaration) was all about. Later, he grew up, became enthusiastic, helpful and energetic. He was no longer satisfied with the small world of life, so he went to the larger world with people who belonged to the big city. He chose a horrible path that no one dared to choose, but unexpectedly came to a paradise. This comfortable and happy town is a symbol of the stable and happy stage of life. Everyone hung their shoes on a high place because they "do not want to move forward." ". But Edward "goed too early", he could enjoy peace and happiness when he was young, but his heart was still full of blood, so he broke through the thorns and difficulties and pursued again. The world of the big city opened his eyes, just like a colorful circus. Friends quickly became the slaves of capitalism because of their skills. Edwards did not aim for money at this time, but pursued love. His heart is so sincere, he is willing to lose money in order to love him, but the process of chasing love is not easy. He never asks for extravagance, and only takes action at critical moments. His behavior represents what true love should contain: pure, Dedication, perseverance and courage, of course, there is a commitment to the end. After having love, Edward had to join the army. Joining the army reflected the situation of the United States participating in various wars at the factual level. At the spiritual level, it symbolized the setbacks and partings experienced by individuals in the development of their relationship. Together. After that, Edward's life focus shifted to family. While running for the family, he had less time to spend with his family. After his life was finally on the right track and economic problems were finally worry-free, he returned to Fengdu Town, where he was once peaceful and peaceful. He can enjoy (face) a happy life now, but not everything is waiting for him like it used to be, he needs to build it with his own hands.
In Edward's life trajectory, many people with metaphorical characteristics have also appeared. The first one is the childhood witch, that is, Jenny whom Edward met in Fengdu Town. She appeared at the two points of Edward's "Knowing Death" and "Helping Rebirth", and was confused by Edward's timeline and restored. In the end, Jenny, who should have been innocent and full of hope in childhood, grew up and turned into a withered flower. This change made Edward see "death", and facing the "death" of others, his attitude was to help her overcome and help. She regained hope, and he himself understood more that sympathy for others was not equal to love, his love was only in his wife. The second one is the giant. Giants represent those with special talents. Such talents cannot be tolerated in a small town. He needs to go to the wider world to be recognized. Edward knows this very well. The third one is the owner of the circus. The "real body" of the boss is a wolf, who will transform in the middle of the night and will struggle in pain. It can be seen that he has lost himself in the society of money desire. He doesn't know whether he is a fierce hungry wolf or himself. From the funeral When Shang Giant attended the meeting with the boss, the director still gave the boss a positive ending: he has become himself and is accompanied by a confidant. The fourth is Siamese twins. Perhaps the director made a joke to ridicule. In centralized countries and even human society, twins should be inseparable and be regarded as the same individual existence. When the last two appeared as two separate individuals, did you realize that they were two people?
In the end, of course, it is the "big fish". Who is it? In this work, he is naturally Edward himself. In the way of death described by his son, he finally turned into a big fish in the water, a big fish that no one can catch and dominate the water freely. Big fish was once famous, and he had received all kinds of temptations and never caught the bait, but swallowed the ring that symbolized marriage and family. Big fish later returned the ring to Edward. I believe that at that moment, Edward was Trust yourself and finally realize the true meaning of marriage, no longer travel far away, no longer travel around, but stay with your family.
No kind of metaphor has a fixed explanation. This is what I see. People with different experiences will naturally see different results. Thank you, Big Fish, for giving me a new understanding of life.

Unexpectedly moved. Super five stars. As Xiaobo said: "I, I firmly believe that the world that everyone sees should not be the world in front of them. The world in front of them is nothing more than eating, drinking, and sleeping. Is that enough?" This is not enough, it is far. not enough. It is not enough for a person to only own this life. He should also have a poetic world, a fantasy world, a fairy tale world, and his own world.

Working hard to live a busy life does not block the fantasy in your heart. Since you can't change what you see, why can't you change what you think? To feel everything beautifully and openly is also a fulfilling life. This is not an escape, but an optimistic outlook on life. Pass the beauty to the children, and also pass the love to the heart. The river of dreams is always flowing quietly, let us be a big fish swimming freely in it!
