"Iron Rain" is an excellent film about the dispute between North and South Korea. The whole drama is 139 minutes long. It tells the story of South Korea's transitional period of presidential change. Political riots broke out in North Korea. The North Korean reactionary army will use nuclear weapons to unify North Korea. Then the five countries of South Korea, North Korea, China, the United States, and Japan unfolded. There are two protagonists in the story, one is Yan Tieyu, a former agent of the North Korean Reconnaissance General Bureau, and the other is Guo Zheyu, the chief secretary of diplomatic security at the Blue House in South Korea. According to the characters in the play, Tie Yu and Zhe Yu are homophones in Korean, so the meaning of the title Tie Yu is not just the name of the male lead in the play, it must have more and deeper levels meaning. After watching the movie, I still feel very shocked, but, sorry for not giving 5 stars, although it is good enough. Also, this is the attitude that citizens should have when dealing with ethnic divisions. Koreans have meticulously photographed this emotion.
Let me first say that the selection of materials for this movie is absolutely outstanding. I don’t dare to say that the contradictions directly bring the audience’s emotions to a climax. There is another topic in Korean movies that can compare to the issue of North Korea and South Korea, and there is another issue that can compare to the discussion of nuclear weapons in the question of North Korea and South Korea. The screenwriter directly broke everyone's suspicion and told the audience directly that North Korea has nuclear weapons, and there are dozens of them! With this as the basis, coupled with the political turmoil in the North Korean government, the reactionaries took the opportunity to launch a nuclear war, South Korea also declared a challenge with the help of the United States, and China and Japan responded to this incident with their own national conditions... Speaking of which, this movie has exploded! This subject matter is destined to be a difficult movie.
Secondly, the director did not lose focus in this grand story background. The two protagonists in the play, one Han and one dynasty, are not absolute high school officials. They represent two national regimes in the play. represent the two peoples. Therefore, their dialogue is not only a dialogue between the two countries, but also a dialogue between two emotions. The big emotion that blood is thicker than water is reflected in the two little people, and the contradiction between the political behavior and the will of the people is shown by the little people's treatment of the relationship between the two Koreas.
The choice of actors is very elegant. The thin and unsmiling Yan Tieyu is played by Zheng Yusheng. This tough guy represents North Korea's tough attitude towards the whole world. Strong and even excessive national pride appears under his tall body. Somewhat old-fashioned. And Guo Zheyu, who is fat and gentle on the surface, is played by Guo Daoyuan, a political star who likes to joke and listen to popular songs. He represents an inclusive way of doing things, actively seeking solutions in the face of contradictions, and is also a compassionate person. Of course, there are also some weak shadows in them. Although they are not described in detail, the slightest weakness is also just right. It shows the status of the Korean government in the world political arena, a regime that thinks it has status but has no status.
Of course, I still can't give it 5 stars, because even though it is excellent, the plot depicted in this film cannot be told clearly in 139 minutes. The story contains too much content, so there are many places that cannot be explained clearly. If you do some articles on some details, this movie will have a higher breakthrough. For example, Li Taihan's attitude towards China; why Pu Guangdong was killed; the Korean government's solution to the tunnel, etc. These are actually good points, but the story of the movie is too dense to explain them in detail.
