you hurt me i cheated on you

This film jumps out of the usual routine of Nazi movies, replacing the grand narrative with delicate and soothing, and it is very worth watching. Although the German officers and the male protagonists are both small characters in the war, they can fully reflect the brutality of the Nazis during World War II and the young officers' yearning for peace. Struggling and contradiction, truth and deception, the two intermingle and spread, allowing me to see the inner truth of the two characters in the context of World War II. The officers are cruel and indifferent, killing others, although the sin is unforgivable. But it's more of a mission. He is also an ordinary person, and he is sincere and warm when dealing with the male protagonist. At the end of the movie, when he communicates with people in the Persian language given to him by the male bishop, he realizes that it is all fake. The helplessness and despair of being deceived made me really emotional for him. You hurt me, I deceived you, but you and I are the greatest innocents. We all yearn for peace, and we all hope that the white clouds can disperse the thick smoke of the battlefield, and the nectar can wash away every undead. This creative perspective is why I strongly recommend it.

Persian Lessons quotes

  • Gilles: [about his daily fourty words in 'Farsi'] Inventing them is not a problem but to remember them all, it's impossible. And there will always be more. Many more.

  • Klaus Koch: [Koch took Gilles back after he was put to move to another camp] You would risk your life for those nameless people.

Gilles: Those aren't nameless. Just because you don't know their names. At least they aren't murderers.

Klaus Koch: I'm not a murderer.

Gilles: No. You just make sure that the murderers eat well.
