a chance encounter

Wake up early on a weekend morning.

I was fiddling with breakfast in the kitchen, and after eating, I simply tidied up the house, and it was past nine o'clock when I sat on the sofa. I haven't turned on the TV for a long time, and suddenly I want to see what the TV station is broadcasting. So I turned on the TV, picked up the remote and dialed the movie channel.

A cartoon-like picture appeared in front of my eyes, a young man riding a bicycle was turning a very strange corner. This corner looks a bit fake, the surrounding buildings are moving, I thought this must not be a good animation movie. It turned out that my preconceived notions made me miss a good movie too easily. Immediately afterwards, the picture came to the picture of the heroine. A young woman was cleaning the room on the second floor. She was like a maid in someone else's house, because someone was telling her to clean up faster. She seemed to be in a hurry, so she opened the window and the dust of the rag fell, and happened to see the male protagonist passing by on a bicycle, a man who took off his hat and responded. That is, this time, this time, the two of them formed an indissoluble bond. It was an accidental encounter, just as accidental as my encounter with this film.

My curiosity about how the storyline unfolded next caught my eye, so I kept watching. When I saw the name of the movie "London Family" written in the lower right corner of the TV, it seemed like I was writing a family story. I kept watching the end of the movie, and what I didn't even expect was that I liked the movie very much after watching it, and went back to watch the beginning of the movie. It turned out to be a film adapted from a picture book. The author of the painting is the son of the hero and heroine. In order to commemorate his parents, he painted their ordinary life. This reminds me that I took out "Ping Ru Meitang" the day before yesterday, and it is indeed a bit like the foreign version of Ping Ru Meitang. They have experienced turbulent times, and they have been together for a lifetime.

In the afternoon, I picked up "Ping Ru Mei Tang" again, and finished the remaining unfinished parts.

Ethel & Ernest quotes

  • [first lines]

Raymond Briggs: [voice over] There was nothing extraordinary about my Mum and Dad, nothing dramatic, no divorce or anything, but they were my parents and I wanted to remember them by doing a picture book. It's a bit odd really, having a book about my parents up there in the best seller list among all the football heroes and cookbooks. They'd be proud of that, I suppose, or rather probably embarrassed too. I'd imagine they'd say, "It wasn't like that," or, "How can you talk about that?" Well, I have, and this is their story.

  • [last lines]

Raymond Briggs: [with Jean, looking at the full grown pear tree in Ethel and Ernest's back yard] I grew it from a pip.
