It's My Duty!

Can you imagine? You were a respected violin musician, and one night you were drinking with your friends, and you were very drunk, and the next day you were in chains and 12 years of slavery in darkness?
Maybe, you can't imagine. You will say that slaves are a thing of the past, too far from me.
Well, can you imagine it? You were a sincere and honest commoner. One day, because you said something disrespectful to the leader, you were put in a concentration camp and spent the rest of your life there.
You laughed again, "What you said is only in North Korea, don't use it to scare me!"
(For a "optimist" like you, it seems that you must force me to use a trick!)
You You can definitely imagine that your son, or your lover, excitedly called you the night before yesterday, telling you what he/she saw and heard all the way in Malaysia, and told you to come back tomorrow. You hung up the phone and said to the sky, "See you tomorrow!" But the next day, you waited for the bad news that the plane lost contact.
Yes, you are the family of the victims of MH370, and this sad news is like a bolt from the blue. You resisted the great grief and came to the Lido Hotel, chanting "Bless the Buddha or God bless" in your heart, looking forward to the miraculous return of your family. However, after waiting for more than ten days, you got the bad news that the plane has indeed crashed. Also, you don't know the reason, you don't even have the right to know the reason.
I know, you are already laughing out loud at this moment...
The first plot mentioned above is the plot of the movie "Twelve Years a Slave" that I watched today, which is the best film at the Oscars this year. Its plot takes place around the time of slavery in the United States around the eighteenth century.
Solomon, a free man in New York, was kidnapped by traffickers to the South and became a slave. At first, he was reluctant to admit his new identity. But, never mind, when the relentless whip falls on you, you'll admit it. So Solomon began to accept his new slave name "Platt", he became accustomed to calling his white owner "master," Used to being beaten to death by slaves of the same color as him...
He was used to it all because he was told: it's better to keep silent, that's how you survive.
However, the life of a slave was unbearable, and some of his companions chose to die. However, he is not willing, he wants to live to see his wife and children. So, he resisted, but resistance can only be exchanged for greater oppression. He asked a white friend to deliver the letter for him, but his friend's betrayal almost cost him his life.
In fact, there are far more blacks than whites in the manor. But when their black companions were beaten, humiliated, and even killed, all they had was apathy and helplessness. Hey, what can I do? Who made them black, born to be slaves!
Solomon was not rescued until the appearance of the renovation worker, played by Brad Pitt.
The renovation worker said he was also very scared, but he said he would still help, "It's my duty!" He said this in a plain way, but it impressed me deeply.
After 12 years as a slave, Solomon finally returned to his home to meet his wife and children.
After going through untold hardships, he was finally free, but his twelve years were gone forever, leaving Solomon with a lifetime of painful memories. And this is just a microcosm of the suffering of black people under slavery for four or five hundred years.
At the end of the film, Solomon, who had previously turned a blind eye to the suffering of his fellow blacks, also wakes up and begins to speak for the freedom of blacks.
The great Martin Luther King once said: "History will remember that the greatest tragedy is not the harsh noise of the bad guys, but the excessive silence of the good guys!"
You may feel that this story is far from you, but please at least Thinking of Malaysia Airlines MH370, do you still feel that such a thing is far away from you?
In the future, when I encounter this kind of thing, the people around me may be in need of help, and I may be very afraid, but I hope I can remember this sentence - "It's my duty!"

Although the laws of the southern United States have stipulated that blacks and whites are equal, segregation and discrimination are still common, and the North recognizes racial discrimination.

Sherlock's role as the farmer was pretty straightforward. Why is Peanuts not their housekeeper...

  • Ford: What is the price for the ones Platt and Eliza?

Freeman: A thousand for Platt; he is a nigger of talent. Seven hundred for Eliza. My fairest price.

Ford: You will accept a note?

Freeman: Always from you, Mr. Ford.

  • Freeman: You see how fit the boy is. Like ripe fruit. He will grow into a fine beast.
