I have to say that it is indeed a good film. The director indirectly shows the history of that era in the United States through the struggle of two camps of gangsters for different ideas. The American Civil War, the same two camps, two concepts, population migration, melting pot phenomenon, race Discrimination against indigenous people and other social phenomena were all captured by director Ying through the fight between two gangs and finally developed to a climax. The gang fight was so powerless in the face of the orderly state armed machine and finally evolved into a two-person fight. When the grievances were divided, the riot finally ended. The protagonist buried his father's knife. New York is no longer in chaos. It develops day by day, symbolizing the era of simplicity and savagery. Slowly, it has been buried deep in New York, and an era will end with it.

There are some times you finally realize the world is not good, the world is not bad. It's only you are old. The end is abrupt

Martin's sociology film transforms history film is not satisfactory. Obviously, the historical information and the historical narrative of New York City weakened the shaping of the role. Ambitious enough, but too greedy. Love stories are somewhat clichéd. Of course Martin’s New York gangster than Ridley’s American gangster has four stars, but obviously I still prefer this one.

Gangs of New York quotes

  • Bill: He ain't earned a death! He ain't a death at my hands! No, he'll walk amongst you marked with shame, a freak worthy of Barnum's Museum of Wonders. God's only man, spared by the Butcher.

  • Walter 'Monk' McGinn: [Pins Amsterdam to the wall] That's it, that's it! Tear my head off and destruct the world! Just like the rest of the stupid Irish in this country! That's why I never ran with your dad!

Amsterdam Vallon: Get off me you crazy bastard!

Walter 'Monk' McGinn: [Leans in and whispers a line of Gaelic. Then, in English] It means, 'If you're not strong you'd better be smart.' Now I don't know if you're being too clever or too dumb, but whichever it is just remember this much. For all his faults, your father was a man who loved his people.

    [Releases Amsterdam and walks away]
