The Vietnam War - American Real Life Realism

Taylor was a college student who signed up for the Vietnam War himself. Entering this cruel world, you will find that many of the rules in life can be disobeyed. The army has always been another world, not to mention the army in war. Most of the American soldiers came to participate in the Vietnam War for the sake of a better life in the future. In fact, they were all afraid of death. Everyone was for their own interests. Jazz... However, when the people around me die one by one, I realize that human life is so fragile. When people have this kind of mentality that they are not sure whether they can survive or not, it is terrifying. We saw that when this group of American soldiers kidnapped a Vietnamese village, murdered the local people and raped little girls, all of this was inhumane and understandable. This can not help but remind me of the Japanese massacre in China.
Human life is fragile, but sometimes people are extremely powerful. War will only bring endless harm. I hope this world has less war and more harmony.

We are most able to see humanity during wars. Perhaps in a certain war, what we advertised was freedom for human beings, but behind it was the fascism we fantasized about, whether it was after World War I, World War II or our own civil war.

Many people think this is a bit non-mainstream in the Vietnam War film, but they can't tell the strangeness. In fact, Oliver Stone is very smart in choosing an absolute small structure to explain the war. The whole movie has no heroes, no main story, no absolute external contradictions. The director focuses all attention on the inner struggle and confusion of people in the war. This non-mainstream approach at the time has gained a lot. Success.

Platoon quotes

  • Pvt. Gator Lerner: [to Rhah] You're weird, man.

  • [During the interrogation of a village chief after the platoon finds hidden weapons]

Pvt. Gator Lerner: Says they had no choice. Says the NVA killed the old honcho when he said no. Now he says all the rice is theirs.

    Sgt. Barnes: Oh, bullshit, Lerner.
