In my opinion, the fatal injury of Bug 2 is not the excessive consumption of Iron Man, but the lack of core charm of the character or even the regression of the character.
If the biggest driving force that drives Iron Man into a superhero is the death of Yinsen, then the death of Ben is what drives Iron Man. Witnessing Ben's death taught Worm to take responsibility for the first time, giving him the ability to not stop evil for the first time. Worm's superhero career is full of guilt. This guilt tortures his conscience, drives him forward, transforms him from an ordinary person into a superhero, and makes him unable to let go of his responsibilities all the time.
In the third generation of insects, there is almost no portrayal of this core motivation, and even in insects 2, there are character behaviors that contradict it. The hero's road of the third generation of insects starts from the small room conversation of team 3. As the origin of the hero, the motive of insects is only said from the mouth of insects when the iron man asks, and it does not over-describe the pain of insects losing Ben. Such a bug is untenable from the source, and it is destined that his heroic story will be over-bound with Iron Man. It is true that we can also argue that the previous two versions of Spider-Man annotated it, but responsibility was not highlighted as a core point in the later films, and even disappeared completely in Bugs 2.
Then the core question discussed in Bug 1 is "do minor superheroes have the ability to become Avengers", which he has proved himself in Bug 1, but was soon subverted in Bug 2; and "without the armor bug" Still not a superhero", it is hard not to copy the core of Iron Man's character in the context of MCU.
The core issues of Bug 2 are "Can Bug take on the responsibility of the Avengers" and "Can Bug become Iron Man's successor". The answer to question 1 seems logical if it comes right after bug 1. But after Avengers 34, the bug faced the dual problems of the retirement of a generation of Avengers and the death of Iron Man. Before such a big difficulty, if you portray it well, not only will the characters be very easy to stand out, but also the core position of the worm in the second-generation women's federation. However, the author's answer to the question is as follows:
a. After experiencing the pain of loss and pressure from all sides, the bug chooses to escape and go on vacation
b. The worm goes after his girlfriend
c. Refused to do the Avengers mission during the vacation on the grounds that he was underage and could not bear the responsibility
d. Forced to act anonymously for the purpose of protecting classmates under Fury’s coercion
e. After witnessing Mysterio's abilities, choose the latter between taking on the responsibility of the Avengers and chasing after the girlfriend
f. Hand over the identity of Iron Man's successor, along with glasses, to someone he deems worthy of trust
g. Tell MJ Spider-Man identity after being questioned
h. Realize Mysterio is the bad guy and come back to beat him
i. Get knocked down and seek happy help
j. Said that he would never be Iron Man, only Spider-Man
k. Defeat Mysterio
This one cdefgj I think there is a big problem. c also violates the core charm of Spider-Man and the character growth experienced in Bug 1, making the characters not only look backwards but also very ooc. The problem with d is that the characters are passive and the layout is too small. After going through Avengers 34 and then watching Worm 2, the reason for the shot has shrunk from saving the universe and all mankind to protecting classmates, which is tantamount to going backwards from a roller coaster to a bumper car. One of the problems with e is that after the worm recognized the ability of Mysterio, he thought that he could get out of the Avengers mission. This irresponsible behavior once again violated the charm of the core character of the worm; Contrary to chasing girlfriends, this contradictory setting is difficult to establish, or it is easy to appear that the characters are too naive. Can you imagine other Avengers or first- and second-generation bugs not saving the world in pursuit of girlfriends? In my opinion, this is simply a disqualification for superheroes. The problem of f also lies in evading responsibility, and easily giving Iron Man's glasses to a capable person who is just a little like Iron Man. To give an inappropriate example, this is like the crown prince inheriting the throne after the emperor's death, and then giving the Yuxi, along with the ruling power, was handed over to a man (?) who looked very similar to his father and had a little governance ability (?) It was so easy for the worm to admit his identity with only 60% certainty, as if it was a joke. behavior. After losing Ben, the worm's awareness of protecting the people around him has risen to an infinitely high position, and it is impossible for him to be as carefree as the MCU iron man if his ability is limited. This move just further reflects the innocence and naivety of the three generations of insects. J's statement should have been the highlight moment when the worm broke through the shadow of Iron Man and established his own personal style. However, due to the lack of portrayal of the core motives of the characters behind, and a major error of judgment just made, it seemed to have no end in the scene at that time, and it sounded more like evading the responsibility left by Iron Man, which was quite negative. Not to mention that just after saying that he is not an iron man, he immediately builds armor like an iron man in the iron man's bgm, which is a shame.
It is true that the screenwriter has lost the main premise of Iron Man as a reason for all the ooc behavior of the bug, but in my opinion, the degree of ooc has exceeded the limit, even to the point of character collapse. After the analysis, I only feel that the screenwriter has abandoned many of the character cores of Spider-Man in order to bring out the old and bring forth the new, and even equates youth with innocence and naivety. It is really embarrassing to watch the movie. Also, after going through all the plot, the core question remains unanswered. With such a lack of responsibility in the first half of the movie, is defeating a Mysterio enough to prove his qualifications? Is taking over Iron Man's glasses the same as taking Iron Man's duties? the answer is negative. In the second half, we only saw Worm act to make up for the damage caused by his credulous belief in Mysterio, to save his classmates and those involved, but we did not see him becoming an avenger and his determination to take on heavy responsibilities, not to mention focusing on portraying after the incident. It's actually him holding MJ around the city as a human-shaped roller coaster, isn't that disappointing?
Aside from the drama, Bugs 2 is also very lackluster in storytelling design and grand scene scheduling. Compared with Garfield's version or the Spider-Verse animation, it is very boring to watch it only as an action movie. Collapsing characters, the positioning of young youth films, and the weak action design, I don't know what else to see in Bug 2. If you insist on saying anything, it may be the memory of the first generation of Avengers in the title, and the red bug of the bug. Eye socket.
