"Forward"-a strange comedy with a fresh and refined style

This is a little-known little film. I watched it. One is because the score on IMDb is quite high, and the other is because I really like the film’s cast, Sara Polly (a talented woman who is excellent in editing, directing, and acting), Katie Helms (sister-in-law) and William Fidnell (representative work "Prison Break") and so on. As a result, the film brought me no small surprises. The black humorous story was divided into three sections and told through the perspectives of different characters. It has the style of "Pulp Fiction" but has its own style. It is a high-level youth crime. comedy.

At the beginning of the film, Sarah Polly played Lorna as the heroine. She is a cashier in a supermarket. She is in urgent need of money to pay the rent or she will be driven out by the landlord. So when her colleague Simon is looking for a game in the casino When she took over, she immediately agreed. In fact, Simon is a small local drug retailer. As soon as Lorna went to work, two customers came to the door. Lorna, who was in desperate need of money, boldly took the business and prepared to appear as a drug dealer. Seeing this, we can predict that things will not go so smoothly, and that there will be constant troubles. Many people will be involved like a snowball, and eventually it will be out of control. The key to this kind of old-fashioned plot can attract us to watch is Sara Polly, who can both act in zombie films ("Dawn of the Living Dead") and compile masterpieces of emotional ethics ("The Willows in the Dark", She received two Oscar-nominated talented women at the age of 27. She was only 20 years old at the time of filming, but the performer does have a rare talent. She carefully portrayed Rona’s straightforward, bold, and decisive character, and the atmosphere of several scenes. The tense indoor rivalry scene was very interesting, and people couldn't help watching it. Especially when Lorna was about to deal in drugs but realized that the other party was a policeman, the dramatic tension between squares and inches relied on facial expressions, which really tested the actor's skill.

The end of the story is that Rona was knocked down by a car, and then the story did not go on, but the beginning of the shift scene was repeated, and then I realized that the structure of the movie was still playing tricks. This time I'm talking about Simon and a few friends going to the casino to play, but it also caused a big mess, because Simon couldn't help touching people while watching the stripper's performance. You know, serious strippers are not prostitutes, they must not be light and frivolous. As a result, Simon, who had never seen the world, shot and wounded the security guard’s arm when he was about to be painful. In short, after some escape, Simon was found by the security father and son. The hilarious thing is that everyone’s solution is for fairness. Simon was about to get a shot in the same position on his arm, but the brutal security guard couldn't do it when the matter came, watching the supermarket colleague played by Katie Helms went from nervous to impatient, and finally contemptuously I just got up and went back to work. This is really a rare situational humor that made me respect director Doug Liman. In this story, Katie Helms’ performance is also very good, very aura, let me have a new understanding of her for the first time (in fact, in her debut film "Ice Storm" by Ang Lee, she showed Out of talent, it’s just that there were too few scenes at that time), she is by no means a vase actor, but a good actor who knows how to enter the show very well. The supermarket cashier she plays is a key role throughout the whole film. There are appearances, the sense of balance is very strong, and the transitions in several scenes are also well-controlled. That kind of casual and rebellious tone is really cute. I hope Tom Cruise doesn't spoil her acting skills.

The last part of the film is even more interesting. A pair of gay soap opera actors were arrested for taking drugs and were coerced by the police to cooperate in the anti-drug operation. Who knows that their acting skills are so bad that Rona sees through them. After the operation failed, the police invited the two to eat at their home. The policeman played by William Fidnell appeared naked and stunned, teasing one of the actors, but in a state of ambiguity and embarrassment. Can't figure it out. The wife of the policeman also began to flirt with another actor. Just when I was wondering whether to have a gorgeous 4P, the answer was revealed. The policeman and his wife started to promote their products. It turned out that they wanted to join the MLM. Apart from the hilarious laughter, I am really surprised by the director's imagination, and when the plot is going strange, there is such a shocking turn. Of course, William Fidnell once again proved his strength. Even though I don’t watch TV series, I always see him in movies, but his image is really breakthrough this time, and it’s embarrassing to act in several scenes. It’s also quite difficult to use such a stylish face to express his state.

Like all films of the same structure, the last few stories are brought together. Of course, the director still does not forget the black humor, so that the two actors came to a performance training class when dealing with Rona’s "corpse", and found that Rona was not dead. There was a speechless discussion, and the final result was to lift her to a public place for the crowd to watch, so that naturally someone would call the police or something. These thoughtful settings run through the whole film, constantly making the audience overjoyed. The whole movie is in a state of off-line but is well controlled. The originality bursting to hilarious scenes emerge in endlessly, but the structure is very rigorous. And the most rare thing is the tone of the film, youth, crime, black, humor, all blended together is a very good strange taste, and the true and mature performances of a group of young actors complement each other, making it impossible to achieve "Pulp Fiction" for the time being. "The height of ", but it can become an inevitable work in the youth crime comedy genre.

  • Claire: Gay men are so hot. It's tragic.

  • Ronna: I need a favor.

Todd: Wow, I didn't know we were such good friends, Ronna! Because if we were, you would know I give head before I give favors and I didn't even give my best friends head, so the chance of your getting a favor right now is pretty fucking slim.
