Farmer Franz lives peacefully in an Austrian town with his wife Franziska and three young daughters. After the outbreak of World War II, he was drafted into the army for training. But the war mobilization he encountered in the barracks made him doubt the war, or the nature and purpose of the war. After returning to his hometown to reunite with his wife and daughter for a short time, the beautiful pastoral life strengthened the idea of refusing to contribute to the Nazi war.
