The story tells the story of Armando Alvarez (Will Ferrell) who has lived and worked on his father's large farm all his life. But now that the farm is in financial trouble, Armando's younger brother Raul ( Diego Luna ) returns from the field with his fiancée Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez). It looks as though Raul's successful international business will save the farm, and he promises to pay all of his father's debts. Gradually, though, Armando falls in love with Sonia, and Raul's business doesn't seem like a legitimate business, and all of this draws them into a war with Mexico's most intimidating drug trafficker, Onza ( Gael García Bernal )
