Billand Abbyare a young couple who live and work in the name of brother and sister in Chicago. They want to get rid of poverty and hard work and travel to the South. Along with them is the little girl Linda. They found a job on a farm in Texas, where they harvested wheat. After the wheat harvest, the rich and handsome farmerinvites them to stay because he has fallen in love with Abby deeply. When Bill and Abby discovered that the farmer was terminally ill and only had a year to live, they decided to let Abby accept his marriage proposal in order to obtain his inheritance. When the expected death did not come, things quietly changed, and Abby's feelings for the farmer became true, and what should Bill do.

Photography is always beautiful. Richard Gere was a bit too beautiful back then. The locust fire scene was too shocking. In my eyes, no matter how bad Malick is, he is still a mountain that many directors cannot match.

The picturesque photography is like a feast for the eyes. The soundtrack is also great, always changing from anxiety to lightness, echoing the hideaway described in the movie where human evil is surging. The ending of the movie proves that because of human jealousy and desire, there is no heaven in the world, and any illusion will be destroyed by the fire-like humanity.
