On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. The devastating blow that shocked the world ended the most brutal war in human history. And in the dangerous and unpredictable days leading up to the end of World War II , General Douglas MacArthur (Tommy Lee Jones), the commander-in-chief of the U.S. military, finds himself "conquering" a nation. And this nation seems to be ruled by someone who calls them "Emperor". Should their so-called "Emperor" really be blindly worshipped by the Japanese people? Or should I strip him of his true identity as a war criminal? He then sends one of his Japanese cultural experts, Bona Fowlers (Matthew Fox), to sneak into a losing Japan to secretly investigate problems that may arise in the country at any time. During the investigation, Bona-Fylers was also fortunate enough to meet Aya (Hatsune Eriko), her lover in her school days.
