The director has created a complex metaphor in which the virtual world has been unknowingly contaminated, and is deeply trapped in his technology worship and technology phobia in the entanglement of the plot and the hidden worries about nature.
It’s too gentle to use the word "crazy" to describe the twisted worm in the director’s head. His fantasies and all craziness have found an outlet in the channel of "eXistenZ"; in fact, the last few seconds of the film proved before 89 minutes of blunt dialogue, disgusting scenes, and flat performance are indeed naive, stupid and rude.
The film focuses on the illusion and reality and the influence of external forces, combined with the tense action scenes, and the blurred boundary between fantasy and reality. It is Cronenberg's most ambitious and challenging work up to the time.
In the film, the scene of combining strange fish into a pistol firing teeth can really arouse a strange sense of horror in the audience. From those anti-control slogans, you can experience the reflective spirit of director Cronenberg, but at the same time feel the same. This is a mockery of human beings.
