At the age of 4, Matilda had already read the books at home, but they were mostly magazines. Because her father and mother didn't read at all, they couldn't think of buying books for her extremely smart daughter. It was Matilda who asked to go to school before her parents sent her to Kangqin Primary School.
Miss Trachbull, the principal, was a shot putter, and any student who was disobedient, she threw the child out of the wall like a shot put. All teachers and students in the school live in her shadow, and Matilda is no exception.
