Hayao Miyazaki's best works surpass "Spirited Away" in the depth, complexity and breadth of connotation. Hisaishi Joe's symphony is magnificent and desolate, just like the sound of nature. None of the characters in the film are facial images with clear distinctions between good and evil. The dark scene of flesh and blood is in sharp contrast with the simple and cute elf. Regarding hatred and forgiveness, regarding endless conflicts, regarding the cyclical struggle between man and nature, there is no way out to live. (9.5/10)

Environmental protection film, love and redemption, is very cliché, without the fantasy and atmosphere of the Valley of the Wind, and the plot is slow and the characters are rigid.

Jigo: Give the head back now? Come on, boy. Don't be silly. Now, when the sun's about to come up? Look! He's a brainless, life-sucking god of death. At sunrise he'll vanish like a bad dream.

Lady Eboshi: Stay here. Help me kill the Forest Spirit, Ashitaka.
Prince Ashitaka: You would do that? Kill the very heart of the forest?
Lady Eboshi: Without that ancient god, the animals here would be nothing but dumb beasts once again. Once the forest has been cleared and the wolves wiped out, this desolate place will become the richest land in the world... and Princess Mononoke will become human.
Prince Ashitaka: "Princess Mononoke"?
Lady Eboshi: Princess of the spirits of ghouls, beasts, and ancient gods. The wolf stole her soul, and now she lives to kill me.
