"Project A" can be said to be Jackie Chan's outrage and ambition after returning from frustration in Hollywood. "Project A" breaks out of Jackie Chan’s previous film pattern. Although the background is still in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, the plot tells the legend of Hong Kong marine police fighting pirates. The style of the film is humorous and there are many funny sections. However, the story is complete and has elements of drama. It opened up a new plot mode for Jackie Chan movies in the 1980s.
As for the action, "Project A" not only follows the witty juggling style of " Drunk Monkey in the Tiger's Eyes ", and at the same time begins to draw on the actions and funny styles of Chaplin and Keaton in the Western silent film era. Some scene ideas are completely copied. For example, Jackie Chan's classic chase scene of riding a bicycle against criminals is obviously suspected of stealing the teacher. However, not all action scenes in "Project A" are humorous, especially the fighting design more presents the actual combat style of hard bridge and hard horse, which is very different from the previous films such as Jackie Chan " Snake in the Eagle's Shadow " which focused on dismantling traditional routines. And Jackie Chan fell from the height of the clock tower and opened the first Jackie Chan film to challenge the hard-to-fight performance.
