Dr. J. Allen Hynek has participated in three different United States Air Force projects related to UFO: Project Sign, Project Grudge and Project Blue Book. He developed a classification system for reporting UFOs and alien sightings, which he called "close contact." Steven Spielberg's film "The Third Kind of Intimate Encounters" (1977) is titled from Heinecke's work. In addition to serving as the technical consultant for the film, Heinecke is also one of the scientists at the climax of the film.
