Before Restrepo, neither Sebastiane Jungle nor Tim Hetherington had anything to do with a career like a director. Sebastiane Jungle is a highly experienced journalist and a writer. His most famous work is " The Perfect Storm " , which was put on the screen in 2000 . Tim Hetherington is a journalist and photographer with extensive experience in reporting on the battlefields of Bosnia and Herzegovina and The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
Talking about the original intention of going to The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to create such a documentary, Tim Hetherington said, “On the whole, this is a gradual process. Sebastiane has a camera and has a good relationship with ABC News , so he naturally I had the idea of shooting a documentary. I didn't take his idea too seriously at the beginning." Sebastiane himself even said that he just had an idea at the beginning and didn't take it too seriously. But then, this idea gradually became the prototype of a documentary, Tim Hetherington continued, "You know, I also did photography for movies before, so I started to feel,'This (filming) can't really happen' We all work for " Vanity Fair ". I am a photographer and he is a writer. I later thought,'Come on, let's take a short shot, let's treat it as a work for "Vanity Fair"' , This is a very important decision. After I took a short shot, I was shocked by the experience in the process. He ( Sebastiane ) also came to the scene to work with me. We looked at each other and finally decided'Okay , Let's make a movie, a real movie'"
