In January 2007, after a long bidding process, Universal Studios and Imagine Entertainment won Ethan River and Selous Wow in bids with New Line Films, Warner Bros., Sony and DreamWorks. Summary of the script written by Reese.
In the original scripts of Ethan Fury and Celous Vorris, the Sheriff of the Nottingham County is a sympathetic character, while Robin Hood is a full-fledged villain. Later, the script was drastically revised by Brian Helgrade because Ridley Scott wanted the county sheriff to become a more contradictory role. Finally, the rewriting of the script was polished by British playwrights Paul Weber and Tom Stoppard. When the latter was writing, the film had already started. In the new version of the script, Scott added a lot of "self-awareness", he put the focus of the story on the time before Robin Hood became a legend, to film how he became a legend.
