William is a criminal police officer of the New York Police Department and a homicide expert. He has been a police officer for 32 years and has worked hard for almost every minute over the years. He also saw and felt too much misfortune. He felt tired. Very good, fortunately he will retire in 7 days now, and he can finally enjoy the blessing. In order to take over his job, his boss sent him a new partner—the young and energetic Mills. He moved to New York with his wife, Tracy. At first, Tracy did not agree to come to this chaotic city. But Mills believed that only here could he take over some important cases, so under his persuasion in every possible way, Tracy agreed. William has a rigorous style and good workmanship, while Mills is a little impulsive. He is arrogant and disagrees with William's way of handling the case.
Perhaps it was predestined, the first case of Mills was the last case of William: a fat man was killed at home. But at the scene, Mills and William found no clues. Immediately after another case occurred, a wealthy defense lawyer Gert was killed. On the floor of the murder scene, the murderer wrote two words in blood: greed. Careful William returned to the scene of the previous crime, without revealing every clue, and finally found two words behind the refrigerator: gluttony. Only then did they realize that he was forced to eat a lot of things until his stomach was broken and died. William suddenly thought of the sentence in "Paradise Lost"-the seven sins of Christianity: gluttony, greed, laziness, anger, pride, lust, and jealousy. He thinks there will be five murders in the future, which are horribly connected with other commandments, but Mills doesn't believe it.
Tracy invited William to eat at home. Mills was a little unhappy, but Tracey had a pleasant conversation with William. The fingerprints found at the scene made Grid's drug dealer Victor a suspect. He has a criminal record and a mental illness. But when the police rushed to arrest him, they found that he was already dead, and the word "lazy" was written on the wall. Through the investigation materials inside the library, William finally targeted the reporter John Doe, a pervert who peeled off his fingers in order not to leave his fingerprints. But when William and Mills went to find him, he had already slipped away. In John's house, they found a picture of a blonde prostitute. But when they found her, she was also dead, with the word "lust" next to her.
By Sunday, William was going to retire, and John called and told them that he had started again. A woman died naked on the bed with "Proud" written next to her. William decided to retire after finishing the case, but John suddenly came up with himself. The prudent William thinks that things will not be so simple, because there are still two unfinished sins, and John must have tricks. John confessed that there were two corpses and was willing to take them to find them. At this time, someone sent a package to Mills. When William opened it, he found that it was Tracy's head. John told Mills that he was "jealous" and killed Tracy. In anger and grief, Mills couldn't control himself and shot John to death. He committed the crime of "anger" and was the last person to complete the 7 admonitions. Watching Mills being escorted into the police car, William was silent in the face of the sunset.

Se7en quotes

  • David Mills: Now, I wasn't standing around guarding the Taco Bell, alright? I worked homicide for five years.

    William Somerset: Not here.

    David Mills: I understand that.

William Somerset: Well, over the next seven days, Detective, you'll do me the favour of remembering that.

  • Police Captain: [to Mills] What do you think?

    David Mills: I'm in.

Mark Swarr: It has to be both of you.

William Somerset: If he were to claim insanity, this conversation is admissable. The fact that he's blackmailing us with his plea...

Mark Swarr: And my client reminds you, two more are dead. The press would have a field day if they found out the police didn't seem too concerned about finding them... giving them a proper burial

William Somerset: If there really are two more dead.
