Jeff Bermanis a local young man in Boston who works as a teller in the fast food restaurant of the mass merchandiser. He is a simple person who has the problems of ordinary young people, including not daring to promise, and lack of motivation, etc., which made his break-up girlfriend Irene Hollyvery frustrated. In order to show his support and want to win back his girlfriend's heart, Jeff went to the finish line of the marathon to cheer for Irene just before the bomb exploded.
