"The Best Years of Our Lives" is a very historically significant film. However, if measured by the level of film art creation, the film can only be regarded as a high-level soap opera. The scripting and directing techniques are smooth but not delicate enough. Part of it has gradually shifted from social issues to tear-making love stories. Relying on the excellent performance of the actors and the atmosphere of the plot itself, it is not the most outstanding masterpiece in terms of the directorial works of William Wyler. The film is divided into three groups of characters to show the veterans' physical and mental adaptation problems after returning to their hometowns. However, when the director and director of the three groups simultaneously take into account the parallel development of the three groups of characters, it is not enough to speak freely and to write emotions incisively and vividly. On the whole, the length of the film seems to be too long, the drama is relatively loose, and the viewing value is reduced with the passage of time  .

Love the post-war movie. William Wyler's plain narrative and Toland's deep focus photography. Harold Russell is a retired soldier who won the Oscar for Lifetime Achievement.

⒈The movie is based on McKinley Kanter’s novel "My Glory"; ⒉The drunk Fred was helped to sit in the back seat, and the drunk Al closed his eyes and held his hand, which was seen by his wife Millie. Then he ridiculed his daughter Peggy: "They are really a beautiful couple, aren't they? Heh, they make a lovely couple, don't they?" Peggy replied, "Yes, I think they will be very happy together. . Yeah, I think they'll be very happy together.” Then Al touched Fred's hand, and when he regained consciousness, he saw Fred's hand with a slightly surprised expression...→ This short joke in the movie I don’t know if the creator has the image of selling corruption? But it was a pleasant surprise to see such an emotional passage in the 1946 Oscar Best Picture! ⒊The life of veterans in reality may not be as good as in the movies, but the beauty of the movies may give many people living in real society some hope.

The Best Years of Our Lives quotes

  • [after Peggy tells her parents that they never had any trouble in their relationship]

Milly Stephenson: "We never had any trouble." How many times have I told you I hated you and believed it in my heart? How many times have you said you were sick and tired of me; that we were all washed up? How many times have we had to fall in love all over again?

  • Al Stephenson: I've seen nothing, I should have stayed at home and found out what was really going on.
